Suppressors AAC Ranger or SPR?

I am in the market for a 5.56 can. It will go on my 18 inch Noveske switchblock and my 12.5 inch carbine. Both guns are shooting less than a minute with my 18 inch shooting groups that look more like a ragged hole.

I am looking for the most accuracy I can get out of a suppressor for both platforms, while having the most compact suppressor possible. I believe I have narrowed it down to two: the AAC Ranger 2, and the AAC SPR/M4.

Both suppressors will give me about the same overall length. I am not sure which one will give me better accuracy. The SPR will give me quick attach and more suppression, but at a cost of an extra $695 and 6.85 oz.

So I think my decision comes down to this: accuracy. What kind of groups are you guys getting from either your Ranger 2s or SPR/M4s?

I'm getting excellent groups with my SPR, but the main thing it gives you is the ability to tune your point of impact shift. If you only shoot both platforms suppressed, then you can rezero for the POI shift of the Ranger and save some money. However, if you plan to shoot both platforms with AND without the suppressor, then you might want to get the SPR and choose the setting on it that changes your unsuppressed POI the least. For me, I don't shoot unsuppressed at all except for 3gun. If I had it to do over I'd buy the 762SD-N6 and run it on everything, or if I HAD to have a 556 suppressor I'd just buy the M4-2000.

I'm aware of their adjustable zero shift on the SPR/M4; however, I don't think I really need it, at least not on anything with exposed turrets. Right now, with my HVT, I have zeroed all of my long guns without it, then I note the velocity and POI shift with it so I can do up a data card with and without the suppressor.

I was just looking at the test results Major Malfunctions posted, and the data seems to be about what I expected.

It is still coming down to accuracy for me, which I should mention also includes repeatability. So, can anyone else comment on their Ranger 2 or SPR/M4?

Typically, thread on is more "accurate" than QD, as long as you don't leave 'em on there and get corrosion on your crown. My SPR didn't change the fact that my Noveske 12.5 would print little bitty bug groups at 100, nor did the mount decrease accuracy when fired without the can. If the rifle was accurate before, it will remain accurate with the SPR. No personal experience with the Ranger, but I have heard from Bookhound that the Ranger is sometimes picky about muzzle threads. It is threaded for very high quality muzzle threading, and typical AR or gunshop threading sometimes leaves a bit too much slop, resulting in accuracy that wasn't what it could have been.

The Miter mount requires careful installation. I would get an OPS Inc 16th model.

The SPR/M4 is a good can simply because you can time it onto the rifle. Remember your timing and you are good to go.

I have shot the ranger2 and just not a fan of it. I don't like its attachment method and have seen more then one go back due to a hot barrel and cross threading.

I still have my SPR/M4 and its a joy to shoot. But I also set my MK12 Mod1 up with a SF 556AR suppressor. Its the best when it comes to POI shift (there is non), weight saving, and attachment ease. IMHO

What do you mean about the Miter mount? Mine just spun on against the shoulder and torqued. The brake mount was a bit more involved, but no more than any other brake. What was your experience?

You have to be careful when sticking the can on to get it in the correct index point for your chosen POI shift. I keep asking SPR/M4 owners how they do that in the dark and they say they don't. Too complicated for me.

Since I started this post I have been looking more and more at Ops Inc. I have spoken with Ron Allen with Ops who is extremely knowledgeable and very accommodating. Even though he knows that I am a small time customer who will buy one maybe two suppressors from Ops at the most, he took the time to answer all of my questions and never tried to rush me off the phone. I wish every company had a rep like Ron working for them.

Long story short I had my SOT dealer call up Ops, and I will be dropping off the money this week and filling out the paperwork for a 16th model. I am also seriously thinking about buying the 14th or the M4-M if it is available right away as well.

Great choice! After handling the ops cans I am going to get the 16th. It is very impressive.
