Gunsmithing Accu-Riser bedding spacers?

Hey Guys,

Picking up my remington 700 SS 5R in a couple of weeks. Will definately be bedding, but after I shoot some rounds thru it. My question is about the "accu-riser" bedding spacers. They come in a set and include spacers (or stainless washers) in .005 thru .030. there are enough spacers in the set to allow up to .080 of thickness in both the front and back of the action. this would give you a consistant gap between the stock and action, which would be filled by the bedding. Im wondering if anyone has used this system and how the bedding job turned out.

i see no reason to use spacers if you properly install your pillars and do your bedding right. check out the stickied threads at the top of this forum. it's easy to do it yourself and you don't need spacers to do it. I bed 3-5 rifles a week usually and i've never used spacers with pillars.

its an HS precision stock w the aluminum bedding blocks in it. are the pillars underneath the blocks?

The factory installed blocks are just "really big pillars."
HS's web site is down now so I can't borrow one of their photos, but you've probably seen the pictures of the aluminum support in the stock.

Read all of Ernie's tips a few times and you'll understand the system.
I think it's a neat way to go.

Necessary? No.
But a nice way to have full metal support when you bed a rifle.

Thanks Doc.

Gonna inlet black the action at the blocks and shoot about 50 rds thru it. that should show me what kind of true bedding block to action support im getting. then, accu-riser spacers and bedding compound. that should give me solid support at the action screws and the full contact area that bedding will provide.
