Buy any AT-X, doesn't matter what generation, you won't go wrong...
Or if you already have a good barrelled action, dump it into an AICS AT-X chassis...

Just don't buy an AT or AX and expect to be overly competitive, the ergonomics and weight distribution are all different while the AT-X is by far the most useable in that respect.

Don't read that the wrong way... :ROFLMAO: I struggled with height over bore issues using an AT from 2016-2019, then having issues getting the balance right on an AXSA with the plastic hand guard area from 2019-2022 and now have an AT-X that is like driving an F1 race car compared a Toyota Hilux.

If you can afford one, the AT-X will save you a lot of heart ache.

McMaster-Carr has shit tons of 5/16x24 threaded knobs so if you just want bigger without the weight I’m sure they have something that would work. The factory bolt knob is around 1” diameter for reference.

I got the 1-3/8” brass ball knob and it’s a fuckin chonk. I wanted something large and preposterous and this is definitely that… but it makes bolt manipulation hilariously easy.

The thing driving up the price is the additional accessories you get included.

If you see the UK pricing for the Standard and Pro models, the Standard (basically like the "old" AT-X) is a similar price that the AT-X was, the hinge, bag rider and full rail are all pretty expensive add ons so the Pro model isn't badly priced.

It's definitely crazy that now the cheapest AI available in the USA is $6,500 but that's due to lack of a "cheap" option.

I think a lot of folks are comparing it to the $4,250 "Sale" price that the AT-X has been at for a while, however the original MSRP is $5,250. So with the AT-XC being listed at $6,538, the difference would be $1,288. Folders are $250, a full bridge is $278, and assuming the AI tax on the bag rider, call it $120. Total would be about $648 meaning AI is essentially adding a $640 increase for the new action which is just keeping up with inflation at this point.

I’m building an Impact range riffle as soon as I can collect enough cans or my OnlyFeet gains more traction, whatever comes first

I've been trying to talk myself out of a GAP PPR for the last hour. Even though they went up $500, it's still a heck of a lot of rifle for the money.

I'd buy it, but there's no more safe room, and I don't have anything that I want to sell.

I wanted one pre Curtis action. Bad.

Now they use the Curtis and im staying clear.

I can get an Impact with a Proof prefit a TT special and KRG chassis for about the same $

Same here. Got the discount. Got a discount on the Zeiss LPR S3 6-36X56 on top of the rifle. All told I feel pretty good about it, especially now!

Correct, but you can use the UK pricing to see how AI has priced this thing.
GBP export prices:

3650 AT (folding)
3938 AT-X (non-folding)
4380 AT-XC Standard
4980 AT-XC Pro

Definitely a massive price jump as far as an “entry level” AI, but that’s AINAs doing.

I was confident that the ATXC was going to be priced at close to $7500, given what the AXSR is set at now. Happy to see its not that high, even if its still very high.

Glad I bought my AXSR from Mountic a couple years ago.

I estimated closer to $7500-$8k. That price doesn’t bother me at all. Figured we have the AXSR and now the short action version of that priced accordingly

At some point it starts getting too rich to send new buyers in that direction though. Especially in today’s market. We’re into where used AXMC prices used to be. Which seems more reasonable given the short or long action cartridges in the same rifle

Sounds like many have been jumping on the AT’s lately. Which I hoping still have a future for the kinda poor AI guys

The same people will go travel for a 2 day PRS match that costs around 1k + all in. And that’s without practice ammo costs.

My father used to say “people always have money for what they want”

I Definitely understand that. I have a few FN SPRs with barrels spun on that - while not as smooth or feature rich - have been 100% reliable across all three examples that I own, and are stupidly accurate. I'm certainly never getting rid of them...and certainly not just to replace with the PPR.

***Enough of the sidetrack though***

I really think that AINA will adjust pricing (just a bit) on the new AT-XC. I doubt you'll see sub $6K on these new ones (until the next gen comes out in 9 months 😄). However as colors or generations come and go, a guy can probably get the discontinued ones for a bit less. I saved $750 by getting an Elite Sand. It might not hurt to sit out buying one for the first year or so...especially after what happened to the Gen 1-2 AT-X guys.

My personal opinion is buy what you want and can afford. There is absolutely nothing bad about owning a Gen 1-3 AT-X or an “old” AT. There will always be new tech. It doesn’t mean the previous generation is obsolete. Plenty of dudes still putting in work with 20+ yo platforms.

So you’re upset they don’t give out prints? It’s really not that difficult to measure and reverse engineer it. Or buy a barrel from someone who does AI prefits

It about customer support. And lack thereof for a long list of items, of which this is just the latest.

I'm not a bigshot in the industry, so I can just fuck off. Message received.

They can be. But they have some special caveats.
  • Sorta dedicated to one rifle or at least a group of rifles with the same barrel-to-mounting-point distance
  • Can be a bit of a hassle to mount, depending on the interface chosen. I’m looking into the QR versions (not talking about the Arca)
  • I own a panner. If you want to leave the panner version on the gun when placing it into a case, you have to take some precautions otherwise much scratcho will occuro. (Pool noodle over barrel…Dale the owner of EI does this too, or maybe RedBreast21’s idea of stuffing an orange tough plastic shim in there…see his pic)
  • Can only be mounted waaaayyy out there, so if you have a short bench to shoot from, you’re SOL.
But they have the most natural NPA cant feeling. Really quite special in that regard. You don’t have to totally lock off the cant (although you can) and the gun kind of ”levitates” but is totally controllable. Unique and awesome.

Edit: lower CoG than many (but not all) bipods (more stable).

And they fold up narrow so you don’t have to remove them to get them in most cases but they offer the same or more stability of wide-boi bipods (which don’t fit in cases well).

Oh yeah, in my mind I was comparing them to my LRA Lite-Tactical F-Class (what a name!), which has a comparable low CoG.

Over an Atlas CAL the stability of both the LRA and EI is pretty significant. I’ll update my above list.

If you get stuck needing a barrel spun up for an older AI, there are several smith's that will do it. I'm assuming not an M27 thread prefit?

We all have our favorite rifle rifle builders. I'm partial to my local guy (Matt Stewart). He had zero problems with me bringing him my AT-X - and even used it to get the measurements to start making prefits.

Sucks that you got the cold shoulder from AI though.

What was the long list of items? Tim/Scott and all those guys have always been helpful.

I too long ago asked for the tenon print and got told no. Didn’t bother me, I just went and measured. You just seem pissy to be pissy. Has nothing to do with being a big shot or even in the industry.

The bridge is $275, and the hinge is $262, that's $537. The ATX-C is $1288 more than the AT-X. That's $751 for a lighter bolt lift; I suppose it's worth it to the spandex-wearing PRS guys.

OP, you're skipping the $320 in extra pic bridge you need to make the NV setup operational ($170 front rail +$150 tall action rail). No Cap the bag rider is also nominaly, $85-100 MSRP. Call that ∆$400ish, on top of your $538 estmate, for a total ∆ of ±$950 (rounding slightly).

If you look at it thisway the v4 upgrade is almost free, at only ± $300+ some change. AND...If you really wanted to into #girlmath...you could say the V4 upgrade "is completly free", since the ∆ $300 is just a cost-of-living adjustment of 5% vs the last price hike.
