Accuracy International AXSR ARCA rail and scratched cerakote

I really don't mind your sarcastic innuendos, but no, not yet. While not borescoping or measuring runout which most of you took out of context, I'm helping a family friend with her litigation with her children over the sale of their family business which sold for over $93,000,000 dollars. The litigation is running over $50,000 per month which has been financially and emotionally difficult for her, not that many here have any sensitivity to such matters being "real" shooters, warriors, operators or men.

True, I haven't had a chance to get to the range as I don't have free time as a partner of a brokerage company where I'm trying to retire and deal with a sister suffering from dementia and her estate. Living in a beach community the nearest rifle range having level targets to 1,000 yards is a ninety-minute drive.

As an avid supporter of law enforcement and military veterans I'm glad I know and have friends that have served this great country. Thankfully, they don't share the needs of some here for passive-aggressive hostility.

I do take short breaks from work, helping others and family issues and find the reception from many of you familiar to similar groups at race tracks posturing and displaying their disdain for others they felt superior to. Many of you here have made your feelings well known, so good luck to you as well.

Perhaps there is way for some of you to block my posts thereby not having to invest your time implying your superiority.
Dude wtf

I think you'd be best to stop digging the hole.

Go shoot your rifle. Post less online.

I'm not expert, but I've been shooting a very long time. Here I am shooting my father’s Sako Forrester L46 222 Remington Magnum (corrected typo) and restoring in 55+ years later. I'm also interested in understanding why things work the way they do and read, listen, and shoot with others to learn. View attachment 8782933View attachment 8782934

After reading Bryan Litz's books years ago I realized how much I didn't know about ballistics. Following those winning in PRS, F-Class, NRL Hunter, benchrest and others, as well as talking with the folks at Short Action Customs, Henderson Precision, Bartlein Barrels, 21st Century, PMA Tool Company, Whidden Gunworks, Eric at Blue Mountain Precision whose built me a few rifles, Tom Jacob of Vapor Trail bullets and experimenting with reloading processes.

Of course, the shooter is critical too, so lessons on body positioning, trigger pull etc. are all part of the pursuit of precision. Again, I'm someone that likes to combine practical and technical process in that pursuit of precision. I realize that is only my process and neither inferior nor superior to other processes.

Damn even your books look brand new.....so what's the secret to reading a book without opening it?

We all got some tism
That guy got a double dose
Dooder, don’t store your AI in a running baler. Smdh

That’s what the grain auger is for.

Ok, seriously, by the looks of that AI, I think you may be a mex cartel drug lord. After you are done shooting bitches to make an “impression” on the locals, you toss it into a 55 gal drum of hydrochloric acid. Gets rid of the blood too.

Bro, just put the fries in the bag…

What do precision rifles have in common with cars and motorcycles? Owners always want to add or upgrade things and my Accuracy International AXSR is no exception. I’ve noticed mounting the rifle in my Really Right Stuff carbon fiber tripod and Anvil 30 ballhead, the Cerakoting was rubbing off the chassis where it was clamped into the ballhead.

I sent out two dozen emails to gunsmiths and vendors looking for a solution. My thought was to mount an ARCA plate to the rifle’s chassis which had a built in ARCA rail, but the constant clamping of the rifle into the tripod ballhead was scratching the Cerakote finish from the rifle.

Gunsmiths and vendors were responding with no direct solution, so I managed to find an ARCA plate that was close, but then having to purchase four small proprietary fasteners for Accuracy Internationals keyslot mounting system. Four tiny screws cost almost a Franklin.

Why not a transparent plastic solution or tape, because it isn’t a great solution and looks tacky. Also, the anodized finish is more durable than Cerakote.

If you’re persistent enough you’ll eventually succeed. Matt Yore of Sawtooth Rifles responded just after I ordered my workaround solution with a part that is exactly what I was looking for. He makes an ARCA rail that fits perfectly on my AI AXSR rifle with his ARCA rail coming with the necessary proprietary fasteners. The parts are being finished and sent out to be anodized, I’ve asked if I can get “Sage Green” to match my rifle.

So, like my motorcycle and car enthusiasts, I’ll have a few more things to add to my shelf of ideas that were close or sounded good at the time, but looking forward to getting the perfect part. Matt’s ARCA rail also has stops to prevent the rifle from sliding out of the tripod mount, cool!

The Ai's of late can be really hit or miss on the quality of the factory cerakote. I'm pretty sure that they're spraying directly over the factory anodizing, when it would be better for adhesion if they lightly blasted it first, or just left the aluminum raw so when they blast it the metal is properly prepped and done so quickly given that they are trying to paint a lot of parts, and quickly.

I paint quite a few of the AI's, i'm doing 5 this week, and started an AX SR tonight. I've had several over the years where the cerakote they applied practically blows off with compressed air, but really goes flying off with some blasting media.

I get that you paid a lot of money, and want it to look nice, so i'm not gonna dog pile on you and give you a hard time about it, but you're kinda in a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" type scenario. On one hand, your rifle could have spotless paint, and people are going to tease you for never using your rifle. Then you let it show scars from thousands of rounds of use, and people are going to talk shit because you don't take care of your high dollar rifle. Your overall point about the cerakote, well cerakote is only as good as the procedure to apply it, and particularly the prep done before it's sprayed on, but at the end of the day, it's a coating, so it has it's limitations even if everything is done perfectly according to optimal application procedures stated by the manufacture.
