I recently bought a savage 10fpc-k I have been shooting it off and on for the last month or so sighting it in and trying to do some sort of break in. Well I have never been really happy with the grouping I've been getting, but I just thought well it will get better. So I went out today to try to spend some time with it and I found that my base was really loose so I came back home and tightened everything and loctited. Went back out and the best I could manage was about 2.25". At 100yds granted it was into a pretty stiff headwind 10 to 15 probably. Am I obsessing over nothing maybe when I get some loads worked up groups will improve? Just want to eliminate the rifle as the problem. I am not the best shot but I am not terrible either I can usually mange moa with my ar's. Sorry to ramble just want to get this thing driving tacks. I was shooting federal 150grain soft points off off Caldwell bags. Sightron 6x24x50 egw 20 moa base

Re: Accuracy troubles

Since you are shooting Federal 150 soft points, I'm going to say all ammo since your twist should be 1:10. With that twist, I would even bypass 168 and start at 178 BTHP or AMAX.

Re: Accuracy troubles

Good to know I wondered about that, I bought some combined technology 168's and berger 175 hybrid target's using nosler brass and varget and was hoping one of those would work well.

Re: Accuracy troubles

I would not just go and blame the 150gr bullets, watched my kid shoot a .6 group today at 100 yds with 130gr ttsx bullets out of a 1-10 Savage PC. I am not sure what stock your rifle has but the accustock on my kids rifle can be fussy after I remove action.

Re: Accuracy troubles

Did you check to make sure that the stock was torqued and to the right specs. also is the barrel completely free floted?
I am not familiar with the accustock. Just throw i would through out some ideas.

Re: Accuracy troubles

Have you taken the rifle out of the stock? If you have there is a torque sequence you need to follow, if it still has the accuwedge style stock you can try it with it in or out and see what shoots better. The accustock on my kids gun is soft now and is hard to get it torqued just right. New Manners stock waiting to be bedded after rifle season. 168's and 175's are the rounds we use for paper punching, her rife likes them loaded hot.

Re: Accuracy troubles

No I have not removed it from the stock. I'll try to pick up a box of better ammo this week till I get some reloaded. How for back from the lands should I stay on my reloads?
