I am trying to get advice from the gurus here that shoot in competition with 1911s. I would like to know what is the most accurate reloading components are out to 50 yds.

I have read (if memory is good) that Wilson uses VV N310 + 200 grain LSWC bullets for their test targets for their 1911s. I don't remember what the charge weight was though. If my memory is not accurate please correct me.

40gt

PS: I have been reloading since 1971, but am new to the 1911 game.

Re: Accurate reloading for 1911????

The shooter is the weakest link in the accuracy triangle, ALWAYS. Especially in a pistol. I've been running 5.0 gr of Win 231 for years under everything from 185's, 200's and 230's. Jacketed and cast, it does the job every time. Pistols in general do not suffer from the same need for load developed rounds as rifles do.

Cheers,

Doc

Used the following for Bullseye:
Bullet: 200 gr SWC (cast for practice, swaged for matches)
Powder: WST 4.1 gr
Brass: WW
Primer: WW WLP
Taper crimp: .470 - .472

I'll give another vote to the montana gold bullets. I use them for the 38super through the 2011 with great results. I use the Hornady 230g XTP for the 45, but I don't shoot comp with the 1911.

What velocity you getting on those Doc? I just loaded some 5.8s to try out in my Glock 21.

Re: Accurate reloading for 1911????

The test target provided with the last Wilson I bought indicated 310 with 200 SWCs. I think it was about .4.0 grains

The .45ACP is a real forgiving cartridge. Almost any suitable combination will give good results in most guns. I can't recall ever trying a load that didn't shoot reasonably accurate.

Dunno, never chono'd them. All of them are dead on at 7 yards and the 230's are POA/POI at 100 yards. I can generally hit 3 out of 7 @ 100 yds on a chest plate if I've had enough coffee that day

Here's how the 5.8s turned out also shot some 6.5gr of unique and books had them rated around 800fps the 231s seemed to have less muzzle flip though. Ended up loading 200 more saturday.
