As the title says, I expect to get a lot of different answers for this. The shop that a lot of us use or will use for barreled actions, has started to get away from using Impact actions due to customer service/shipping issues. Now, their preferred are Lone Peak. Possibly use Kauger if someone's needs to save a couple bucks. My question is this: Impacts would be one I usually tell folks to look at. I have looked at what other competitors are using across the country, and everyone has their favorite. If there were a "Top 3" Actions here, who would they be. tia

In my opinion if you are wanting to build a rifle in a caliber outside of the Short Action youll be paying a premium, if you want to go outside of Long Action, youll pay even more.

Then youll be stuck with very few prefit options.

Impact's best quality to me is that I can get their prefits from multiple places. I have other prefit actions and the options are quite a bit less.

I also mess with Magnum and 50 BMG actions, when you get to that point you dont get to be picky. Those actions and stocks that fit it difficult to find sometimes.

Whats wrong with the Zermat TL3? I have had good service with them.

Nothing. Excellent action. The Origin is a little cheaper so if you didn’t need an integrated recoil lug or plan to use AW mags then you can save about $400 and get the Origin. I have two TL3s and an Origin and then all work great.

The integral recoil lug on any action that allows for prefit barrels is worth the extra $$$. A trip to the gunsmith to set headspace on a new or different barrel and the ease of changing bolt heads is worth the extra money to me. I have 3 of them and in just a few minutes I can change out a barrel or caliber is why I bought into them.

You can do the same with the Origin pinned recoil lug. You don’t need an integral recoil lug to swap out prefits at home.

You sound like a savage or solus would serve you well. Stay away from those nasty impacts that dominate the podiums and are on probably 75% of the top 100 shooters rifles.

You honestly can't go wrong with modern actions between $1-2k. Pick the features you want but make sure you try before you buys. The feel between a 60 and 90 or even a 75 and 90* impact is night and day. The 90s are waaaaaay smoother and easier to run. But some guys don't care and like the 60s. Lone peak makes an awesome copy of impact if that's what your after. Origin, tenacity, cdg are all good budget actions too. Picking a quality smith to build your barrels is more important than the action.

I own 3 ARC actions, they’ve replaced just about everything in my safe. I have all the flavors, and all the different bolt heads. They are super easy to work on and to take apart, easier then rem 700 in my opinion. But there are some tricks to learn to make it easy. Bella over at ARC can walk you through the tricks over the phone (it’s kinda like the secret menu at in and out burger), just gotta know who to ask lol. As far as weight, my archimedes action is my 7 SAUM and 22inch carbon barrel, fully loaded including bipod and sling, rifle weighs 10.2 pounds.

The Vudoo and CDG are the same action just one is branded with Vudoo. I asked them. Lol it wasn’t said flat out, that is what it is but at that time they might not have been able to say it because of business jargon.

If you’re on the fence about getting one ARC actions, I would say do it and you won’t regret it. They are great and work horses for sure. Some folks try and say the are over engineered and they might be but the way I see it, ARC just thought out side the box and are forward thinking especially with the entrance of the COUP.
