I am about to make a purchase on an AW .308 with a fixed stock. Is there a big advantage with a folding stock asides from portability, cleaning? Is there any movement with the folding stock or is it as solid as the fixed stock? Thanks.

Re: AI Folding stock vs Fixed

I have often wondered the same thing. Over time will it loosen and become a problem? I am definitely no expert but it is a part that will be moving over time. More moving parts often means problems.

Re: AI Folding stock vs Fixed

+1 folder is solid as a rock... I had the same concerns when I purchased mine, but I am glad I went with the folder.

Re: AI Folding stock vs Fixed

personally, i'm buying 2.0's for now on. not having to remove the cheek piece and butt pad when cleaning is worth it to me alone. not having to remove the cheek piece to remove the bolt is also a HUGE reason in my opinion to get the 2.0 in a long action.

FWIW - if you are one of these strange guys who insists on cleaningxyour rifle (

)you may find the folder a lot easier to work with.....unless you have a LOOONNNGGGGG cleaning rod.

Just a minor point but one I've run into on my fixed stock.

+1

Re: AI Folding stock vs Fixed

I have been running a folder for over 6 years now with no issues in stability. It is nice to be able to fold the stock over for cleaning every 12 months or 5,000 rounds. Whichever comes 1st!

Re: AI Folding stock vs Fixed

I also have an AI folder stock on a long action AWSM. I am very happy with it. I personally would only buy an AI with the folder stock, short or long action. Like everyone else says cleaning is easier and it shortens up for the safe and gun case.

Can't argue with that. LOL

I wanted a folder but found the right deal on a fixed. Would I appreciate having the folder? Yes. Is it worth the extra $500+? No.

Re: AI Folding stock vs Fixed

I guess I am the only guy at the other end of the spectrum. I have 3 AIAWs and non of them has the folding stocks. It comes down to personal choice. AI builds solid stock, so you don't have to worry about that. Agree with all the above too. But for the extra money, I can always take off the adj. cheek piece to clean and save my money to buy more reloading components. JMHO.

Well fellas, joined the club.
Price was right, went with the AW .308 26inch/brake....tan color....NON folding

. I don't clean enough to worry about taking off the cheek piece. Any comments with the AI scope mount with 18 Moa?

GTG with that. Pic rail, or dove tail. Had both and both are great.
