AI skins torque value?

Re: AI skins torque value?

The specification on the skins bolts is 0.8 Nm which equals 7 in/lbs.

NO loctite...

If you don't have a torque wrench/driver that will go that low...then finger tight is all you need (don't go crazy and they don't need much to hold them fast to the chassis and you don't want to go stripping out those screws)!

ETA: DAMN!! Stacey beat me to it...I gotta get some typing lessons one of these days!

Re: AI skins torque value?

i torque everything to the proper factory recommended torque using my frequently calibrated Gearwrench Micrometer Drive... to insure proper torque.

it's very important to hit every screw on the skins with 7 inch pounds, and I mean 7. I also torque all my scopes rings, butt plates, action screws, etc, every time I get ready to hit the range. One mistake can make all the difference in the world when it comes to a precision rifle fired across long distance.

Never take torque for granted is my wisdom of the day.

Damn right. A loose skin fastener can really fuck up a nice three shot group.

Re: AI skins torque value?

The beauty of the AI system is its field worthy without a great amount of tools. To me that means I should be able to tape a couple of wrenches on the side and be able to keep the system up and running in moon dust areas.

L shapped wrench is easy to have with you. Torque driver is a bit much to carry in a Alice Ruck, when ammo, water and food seem a bit more needed.

Some guys go way overboard with Bench Rest stuff

If you can not tell the amount of needed tightness, with an allen wrench, a side panel with a million screws needs its time to take away the tools.

Mostly the latter.

Just snug em down and you're fine.

That's what I figured. I'm cool with the ball busting, and now that I know we're all on the same level, I'll let loose some busting myself.

Yea, I know. I could try to waste keyboard breath by trying to explain why I asked, but it would do no good. I'll just cover my balls with a bag of frozen peas and suck it up.

Re: AI skins torque value?

Now now, its ok, I sure it was not that bad really. However funny it might be, the reality is that some do everything by the book, others look at the book and then there's the ones that just can't read, LOL. Torque is good on lots of things and is essential I agree, but then there's the others, that simply mean to keep the end user from screwing it up.

Re: AI skins torque value?

So, what the wrench to buy? if this is your first Torgue wrench and I want to buy once, cry once and not worry about replacing it any time soon.

Re: AI skins torque value?

All around, I like the Borka tool kit, you can't go wrong with it, great for the field and shop but it don't have a 7in lb setting LOL. We have them in stock right now and still running a special so contact me if you would like to discuss or place an order. Have a safe weekend to all.

Re: AI skins torque value?

I'm looking for something that can be used in both the shop and in the range. I don't move my scopes around all that much, but when I do, I'd like it to be there. And depending on my objectives, I might also carry it into the range from time to time, but honestly I don't anticipate carrying it too often.

Re: AI skins torque value?

Well you either have to consider multiple pre set torque wrenches to all your desired needs, or an adjustable torque wrench, or the Borka kit. Money is near the same just depends on what your requirements of torque are honestly. So what are you trying to accomplish with the torque wrench, working with what applications basically?

Re: AI skins torque value?

It would be dedicated to the rifles, scopes and mounting rails and only see occasional use. There are times where I like to switch things around a bit, but these days, all my rifles are sporting the right scopes. (at least for now).

I looked up the Borka you mentioned and it looks like that will the job nicely. SWFA isn't far from me and they carry it.

Looks like the way to go.

Thanks.

Re: AI skins torque value?

Just don't do what I did with the Borka...I put the T-15, the driver and the torque handle on the same end. I forgot the cap top comes off and the driver goes in that way. What a dumb ass thing to do.
