Do you know how rankings work? You have to be pretty good to be #8

Hawaii is #8?

I am aware. NCAA rankings is like American Idol, you need Paula Abdul's vote to get to the Championship dance off.

BTW, rankings in week 1 does not mean anything. Should not be ranking until week 8 or 10.

Oh my bad.

The problem I think with rankings early is People tend to not not "demote" teams unless they lose.

I would have no problem with early 1 rankings if it was just the computers and only the computers that ranked them. However, it does not work this way, 2 of the 3 polls are determined by people like Paula Abdul.

Re: Alabama tries to avoid history.

That Auburn game was tough to watch. Got to give credit to Mississippi state though, they looked really sharp.

I'm starting to appreciate the amazing rivalry between you folks and Bama!

Speaking of; Alabama once again looked like they were playing a high school team.

Per your A&M post; Florida came back strong but yeah, no question A&M is looking very good. Manziel was very impressive! A walk on freshman no less!

Re: Alabama tries to avoid history.

Its sad people around town are already talking about Bobby Petrino. I say it is early yet, but something has got to give. We play LSU in two weeks and Ark after that. ULM next week is going to be hard enough. To make matters worse, Bama is doing so well. I have family that are Bama loyalists calling that are happier about AU playing badly then their own win.

FL and GA certainly have their hands full also.

Re: Alabama tries to avoid history.

Not taking ANYTHING away from Arizona or Louisiana Monroe, but good teams get complacent and "lesser" teams (for lack of a better term) come with a good plan and execute it. Sometimes it is just too much for the big boys to overcome. It is easier to rise to the occasion for one game per season than to slug it out week after week.

These upsets happen almost every season and I enjoy seeing it occur. I get no enjoyment from watching a big BCS team (Alabama included) blow a FCS school out of the water....even though I understand that every team needs a powder-puff game once or twice a season.

Just because Louisiana Monroe smacked Arkansas doesn't mean they will also beat Auburn. You can bet that Arkansas will play Alabama better next week too.

Re: Alabama tries to avoid history.

Family weekend for Alabama is 9/21 - 9/23 with the highlight being Alabama hosting Florida Atlantic!

Now, while I miss the hell out of my kid and want very much to go and visit her in two weeks, the idea of watching Alabama pummel the hell out of otherwise perfectly good Floridians is not prominent in my itinerary..

And yet the Tide doesn't play the Gators, the Noles, Miami, UCF or even my own Alma Mater, the USF Bulls (2-0 this season! Go Bulls) this year!. I would think one cake walk would be more than enough, especially for the #1 ranked team!

Ummm what more do you want? Opening game they destroy Michigan and they just obliterated their "first real SEC test" Arkansas. They show massive improvement every week. Mid year they will be putting 80 points a game up at this rate. All of the teams you listed would be merely a scrimmage for them.

La- Monroe would beg to deffer the powder puff analogy, I think Auburn and Arkansas would too! I to believed that Arkansas would give Bama a good game, but without a starting QB who can hit a receiver it was for not.

The odds are against them though. It's a long season, and many things can happen. Normally a team that wins convincingly never changes because why should though?

While the other teams, have no choice to make adjustments. There will be one team that will figure Bama out. Bama should win @Mizzu, @Tenn.. but you never know! Stranger things have happen. I still think Bama has the best chance to win it all though, I just don't think they will win convincingly every game, and I think there is more than a 50% chance they lose one between Mizzu, Tenn, MSU, aTm, and LSU.

In my lifetime I have only seen one team that won every game convincingly start to Finish, and that was Texas with Vince Young the year they beat USC.

Being a rabid Alabama fan I would love to argue with your assessment. BUT I would be fooling myself. We have not played a quality opponent yet! Tenn. and MSU I don't think can handle Bama period, Mizzu, LSwho I'm more inclined to worry about. Please don't bring up the cow college. Hoover High School would give them a run. LOL!

Yeah, so did mine! At 30 zip at the half she was ready to go. Yeah, both Tiger teams surprised me. One looked like they wanted a fight the other looked like they didn't know they were in one. I've come to learn that families have become estranged because of the decision to enroll in, or marry someone who went to the opposing school!

My daughter won a scholarship from some Tampa Bay Insurance council AKA- drunks (They drink a lot!) and we were seated with some mercilessly funny people who were all Auburn alumni.

Good humor though!

You do not know what you are talking about. Just stop....

Tennessee barely got past Akron
LSU and Auburn were having a race to see who could play the worst and still win.

If they continue to play like they are currently, Bama will run them over without even a glance back. Write now the strongest team in the country, that is most CONSISTENT in their play, is the Crimson Tide.

That was a hell of a team, and a hell of a national title game. As a side note, ever wonder where Vince Young is today?

Vince Young is broke

AP
Six years ago, quarterback Vince Young became the third overall pick in the draft, signing a contract with the Titans that paid him $26 million.

Now, Young is out of the NFL — and out of money.

“I would just say that Vince needs a job,” attorney Trey Dolezal told the Associated Press regarding Young’s financial situation.

Young has sued his former agent, Major Adams, and a financial planner, Ronnie Peoples. Young claims that they misappropriated $5.5 million, via forged signatures and impersonated phone calls and emails. Young also alleges that a $1.7 million lockout loan in 2011 was obtained in his name by Adams and Peoples.

“They conspired to take Vince’s money,” Dolezal said. “It’s that simple.”

Regardless of where the money went, the money is gone. And Dolezal thinks Young was dumped by the Bills because of the financial issues. “I wasn’t in the room when [the Bills] made a decision, but what would you think? It certainly wouldn’t help me if I’m the owner or the head coach knowing all this is going on with Vince and then he goes out and plays poorly,” Dolezal said.

The Bills declined comment on the reasons for cutting him. Regardless of the reason(s), the Bills didn’t want him — and no one else does, either.

Saying Bama is the #1 team in the country is like saying The sun will come up tomorrow... DUH!

Just saying it's a long season, and there is still a lot of football left. You don't think there is still a lot of left?

As for Tenn/LSU/Auburn.. Every team will have games where they struggle, and games where they will be lights out.

Re: Alabama tries to avoid history.

Looking at Bama's remaining schedule, this will be no cake walk.

@Missouri
@Tennessee
Miss State
@LSU
aTm
West Carolina
Auburn

Now looking at my best case scenario of Bama wins:
@Missouri bama has a 95% of winning -- .95
@Tennessee -- 95% of winning -- .95
Miss State -- 90% of winning -- .90
@LSU -- 50% of winning -- .50
aTm -- 65% of winning -- .65
West Carolina -- locked -- 1
Auburn -- 90% of winning -- .90

Add it all up and you get 5.85 wins. That means Bama will lose at least 1 before the SEC Championship Game according to this formula.

Before you Bama Homers get mad, I worked the numbers heavy in Bama's favor.

Rivalry games are great! Good luck with that though hahaha. Play as well as you guys did against LSU (on the road I might add), and... you never know.

Re: Alabama tries to avoid history.

Unless LSU gets their act together, I don't think they have even a 50% shot at beating Alabama.....more like maybe 30%. The polls have been very kind to LSU considering their last few showings.

The trouble Bama will face from here on is staying focused and not overlooking an opponent in front of them.

I feel sorry for Missouri next week.

Re: Alabama tries to avoid history.

I'm with you on that Jethro as far as keeping focused. The other thing will be keeping the players healthy. Hell, we have lost 5 for the season but I still think we are capable of pulling out a championship.

+1
I watch all college football, every conference. I watch all the week day games (because I put money on them). Anything can happen. Like I said before, I have seen very few teams go wire to wire at a very high level. There is always a slip here or there. Only predictions I make is today's game! I will never predict 3 or 4 games from now.

One of the best teams I have ever seen was Oklahoma 2003-2004! That team was lights out all year, then in the Conference Championship they lost bad! Only scored 1 TD while their D got 5 put up on them. I don't know how they were allowed to go to the National Championship game after this, but they did.. and they lost there too to LSU. That one K-State game turned one of the greatest teams in history to an afterthought, and bumped that OU team into oblivion.

Well, it was a mighty interesting day in the SEC yesterday.
Some of the teams thought to be the strongest took it hard.
GA got "spurred" in an pitiful display against SC; and WOW, what the hell happened to LSU?

I actually called FL and SC winning.....although I thought GA would have put up more of a fight. I thought TX and FSU would have won their games.

Oh well.

As a guy who considers himself an Auburn fan, I was dismayed at what I saw yesterday. It was REALLY bad. I kept thinking they would find some success this season. I thought the LSU game showed they were turning the corner.

You think Auburn was bad....Virginia lost by 28 points to DUKE!!!! for crying out loud. They really stunk up the field yesterday. I fact, I suspect that there may be a couple of coaches in Virginia (Mike London Uva, and Frank Beamer VaTech) looking for jobs next year.

Dont look now, but Im pretty sure Duke on the top of their division in the ACC.

And it sucks that LSU lost, but good job Florida. To bad they dont let our defense play both ways.

Re: Alabama tries to avoid history.

I don't care what Alabama or Auburn's record is when it comes time for the Iron Bowl... you can through it out the window. The team that is emotionally up is the team that wins. Both teams have been bit in the ass several times over the years.

Alabama has significant injury issues too, but it helps when your coach is one of the best recruiters in the game and your third string guy was ranked 4 stars out of high school and would start at almost any other team in the country.

Now looking at my best case scenario of Bama wins:
@Missouri bama has a 95% of winning -- .95
@Tennessee -- 95% of winning -- .95
Miss State -- 90% of winning -- .90
@LSU -- 50% of winning -- .50
aTm -- 65% of winning -- .65
West Carolina -- locked -- 1
Auburn -- 90% of winning -- .90

Add it all up and you get 5.85 wins. That means Bama will lose at least 1 before the SEC Championship Game according to this formula.

Before you Bama Homers get mad, I worked the numbers heavy in Bama's favor. </div></div>

LSU just got owned in every aspect of the game by Florida. And FL is not particularly a strong team this year. Then they blamed their loss on the heat in FL......

They have no talent, no offensive coaching and no O line coaching. They wont beat Bama. No way.

You still dont know what your talking about. Can Bama suffer a loss, sure, but it will be like last year.... they would avenge it in style. It would have to be something they cause. Beating themselves so to speak.
