I am sure everyone has notice that along with 22 Cal bullets, Alliant Reloader 15 has been near impossible to find. Has anyone tested Alliant's AR-COMP powder? How did it test out?

Thanks,

Re: Alliant Powders' AR-COMP

I have not tested it yet, but have been considering giving it a shot. I'm currently a Varget guy for my .308's, but i've heard some good things here and on other sites about the AR-Comp that i feel i may give it a shot when my next batch of Varget dries up.

Re: Alliant Powders' AR-COMP

I run it in .224 AR's and in 308s. Awesome powder. SD's in the 7-9 range from 48 to 103 emps maybe 35 fps velo change. Really like it so far, but it tends to run a bit slow in my 308 like 75 fps. It shoots onehole shot after shot groups in the ar's and the 308 thogh...

Re: Alliant Powders' AR-COMP

I am currently using ARComp after switching from AA 2520. The 69 SMK is extremely accurate (5 shot 1/2" groups at 100 yards) while the 77 NOS (consistent 1" groups at 100 yards) are very efficient for farm predator management. I have not chronographed these loads.

Barnes Precision Machine DMR
18" 1 in 8 twist

69 SMK
22.9 gr.
CCI 450
2.260 OAL

77 NOS
22.0 gr.
CCI 450
2.260 OAL

Re: Alliant Powders' AR-COMP

I'm impressed with it. Went through summer, winter, summer seasons running the same velocity as advertised.
Seems accurate enough, and burns relativly clean.

The published load data was hot for our guns, went down to 23gr, it is fine now.
I have 16lbs of 748 left to use, then I'm switching to it all out.

Re: Alliant Powders' AR-COMP

I'll agree with the hot load comments. I always start low and work my way up, but was getting severe cratering at even starting loads with my 308 and 175 smk's.

I just picked up some, Varget is not to be found in my area. Any suggestions for a 308, 175 SMK, Remington 700, 1-12 twist? I have been told it load somewhat like Varget but don't have the data.

Rivemor,

I have tested this podwer in 223/556 and 308.

My accuracy loads are:

From 20" Rock RIver NM LAR-15. Wylde chamber.
77gr SMK
2011 LC brass
Win Small Rifle Primer
23.5gr AR-Comp
2.26OAL
This has shot as small as 1/2" 5-shot group at 200yards.

80gr SMK
2011 LC Brass
Win Small rifle primer
24gr AR-comp
2.5" OAL
This is my 600yard load. It is too long to fit in a magazine. The national match course of fire at 600yards is single load, single fire, so everyone runs long & heavy for caliber bullets at 600yards.

I can get you my data for 308s if you are interested. I need to re-confirm my 208gr AMAX load and 150gr load for the 308.

Best.

Armydog,

I'll get you my nodes for 208AMAX and 150gr BTSP after i get home.

Load i settled on is

175SMK
40.7gr AR-Comp
Mixed head stamp LC brass
WLR primer

This load shot a one ragged hole group at 100yards, and i have shot this group all the way back to 600yards in competition, and know the load is more accurate than i am.

I shoot this out of my 20" M110 service rifle build. This rifle is a tight-chamber, so loads that produce peak velocity and accuracy in my other 308 AR is too hot for this one.

Since my chronograph went TU shortly after i aquired it, i do not know the velocity of the above load, but i believe it is in the hig 2590s or low 2600 range...while the velocity is dissapointing, the load is so accurate, and recoil so mild that it I shoot better scores with this load, and i'm less concerned with flinch.
