Correct.

Remington 700-Check, Short Action-Check, 20MOA Cant-Check, Alloy-Check.

You should be GTG with that base and alloy/alumin. rings.

Re: Alloy or steel scope base for aluminum scope?

I have use aluminum rings(Seekins) and steel base(Badger) and steel rings(Badger) and aluminum bases(Seekins)and never had any problems with any other them in different combinations. Buy quality and you will be fine no matter what they are made of.

Re: Alloy or steel scope base for aluminum scope?

I've just always assumed that an aluminum scope + rings will expand and contract the same at various temps. so it's good the scope and rings be teh same material. Wasn't sure on the base tho.

Re: Alloy or steel scope base for aluminum scope?

I call BS on the whole expansion and contraction argument in regards to scopes, rings and bases. Never saw any evidence it makes any difference.

Re: Alloy or steel scope base for aluminum scope?

I would say that you are good to go with either. You are gonna have to hit some pretty extreme temps to get your metal to expand or contract to a degree that it will affect anything. If you are worried about it, buy the matching set. Or if you shoot in Death Valley or the Antartic a lot it might make sense also.

I shoot in AZ. We hit temps up to 110-115 all summer long. I have never noticed any of my quality gear change or suffer from the temps.

Good luck and get what makes you happy.

Re: Alloy or steel scope base for aluminum scope?

There's less to worry about with the temp changes than there is to match the surface hardness for the materials being used.

Putting steel rings on an AL base is going to cause problems with heavier recoil (308's or larger, 223's are pretty insensitive) because there's a bearing stress condition problem.

If you want to put a good set of rings and bases but still save a little coin, I'd suggest the Burris XTR's and an EGW base. I used them this weekend for a home shop 6.5-06 I did for a buddy, worked out very nicely.

No, see my post directly above.

The parts by themselves are all excellent, but steel and AL don't mix well.

I see nothing wrong with badger rings or EGW's stuff, in fact, I'd applaud it.

You should spend the extra $20 to put a Steel EGW base on that Tikka, or get the EGW base and put some AL rings that are not hardcoated on there. The surface hardness is what you're aiming to match.

I live in Italy, and unfortunately midway Italy don't have steel base..

Buy quality get quality results!

Re: Alloy or steel scope base for aluminum scope?

I have shot thousands of rounds with mixed set ups in everything from .223 to 300WM. I wouldn't sweat aluminum and steel mixed as long as they are quality.

Almost i ordered EGW mount...

Re: Alloy or steel scope base for aluminum scope?

I will argue this point with anyone at anytime...

I have used steel and aluminum rings with steel and aluminum bases... and all of the above with steel receivers and aluminum scope tubes... I have NEVER had any problems with any of them at any time... PERIOD!!

I will sit back now and wait for someone to show me proof that it does make a difference.
