^^ This??? ^^

What do you perceive as the advantage of an aluminum grip for your AR? Is it purely a "cosmetic" or "aesthetic" appeal?

Re: Aluminum AR Grips?

No lie purely cosmetic. we all get something lavish for our favorite firearms once in awhile. Not everything needs to be so practical and super functiona all the time. c'mon!

Understood. Nothing wrong with a little "bling" now and then. I just didn't want you thinking that you were getting some uber-secret advantage or up-side to the Alum. grips as they are purely form over function...looks vs. practicality.

Yep. I once got a $600 rifle a $2000+ scope. I love to do lavish stuff to my rifles. However it usually ends up being practical too.

No problem with "pimping your gat" as long as you understand that it's a less-functional upgrade.

They may "function" similarly, but they are no more useful or functional than a basic AR-15 A2 polymer grip. The problem is that you are paying $120 (give or take) for the "bling factor" and getting ABSOLUTELY NOTHING MORE FOR IT other than "da bling!"

if it's a range toy, nothing wrong with aluminum. but lay that weapon out in the sun for a bit and try to see how "functional" that aluminum grip is.

Aluminum conducts heat. (although I am fairly certain we are not talking about a machine gun here).

If the weapon takes an extremely hard hit on the grip, plastic will yield saving the receiver. Aluminum will not.

Aluminum adds weight.

Specifically the 1911 grip adapter adds extra parts.

That's just off the top of my head.

Re: Aluminum AR Grips?

Why would anyone want aluminum so you can freeze your hands of when it’s cold out and burn them during the summer? It’s going to be heavier and less flexible. Even a wood grip is a better idea.

Re: Aluminum AR Grips?

I'm with LoneWolfUSMC on this one.

Having had the sad experience of being barely able to hold onto a revolver because the backstrap had become almost as hot as a flatiron, I will go even further as to call such a range queen gun "bling" option outright stoopid.

If one insists on such silliness, at least choose a metal with a lower specific heat, like silver. Not plate, but solid. Silver also has natural germ-killing properties for anything left on it for more than a few hours, an offsetting functionality potentially useful in the aftermath of a CQB Zombie attack.

Being better-informed should lead to better choices.

Who said magpul? I'm comparing them to standard grips. As for them getting too hot don't leave you gun out in the sun problem solved.

EZ for y'alls with lotsa trees around to say...

Or are you just a flatlander???

Re: Aluminum AR Grips?

Interesting. I would have never guessed anyone would make them. They would be nice in the spring and fall when temps are cool and a person is walking around. It would be nice to have the gun acting as a radiator. For the rest of the year just use gloves.
