A man was charged with murder after twice plowing his car over a family of eight — killing the mother – outside a 7-Eleven in Rockland County because the father had told him not to smoke in front of their six children, police said.

An enraged Jason Mendez, 35, jumped inside his car about 1:50 p.m. Wednesday and rammed the family – then reversed and struck them a second time after hitting the building, police said.

I'm surprised the media admitted that a person had to get into the car in order to commit the murders. You mean the car didn't just start right up and mow everyone down on it's own!?

He probably also had a license which was supposed to confirm that they were a good person and could operate said vehicle. Weird, that guy didn't obey the law and stay within the purview of his assigned government document. The audacity, pfft! More laws would have definitely prevented this tragedy.

For what it's worth, people are better drivers when they have to actually be involved with operating the vehicle.

The good news about manual transmission vehicles in this country, they are less likely to get stolen (or when stolen get driven any distance).
