Ammo test question?

I bought 15 different types of .22lr ammo to test in my KIDD 10/22. I have only been using wolf match extra because it shoots pretty well. But I am curious to see if I can do better.

My test is going to consist of two five shot groups unsuppressed then two five shot groups suppressed.

When I test should I clean between different ammo? I ask because my rifle shoots like crap when it is clean. Usually takes 5-10 rounds to start shooting well again.

I was thinking of cleaning then shooting 15 rounds of my usual ammo to "foul", then just start testing with out cleaning for 5 brands of ammo then clen, foul, and shoot for five more and repeat.

What do you think?

Re: Ammo test question?

I would just use a bore snake in between rounds. If you clean and then use your rounds to foul, what is the point? Are you not back to square one?
My rifles always shoot better foulded. I don't clean till accuracy starts to drop off. Then they get cleaned, some fouling shots and back to a bore snake. Fwiw?

Re: Ammo test question?

I don't clean at all when testing between lots. I have a bunch of different ammo that I test all my .22's with to see what shoots best. Most of the match stuff shoots pretty good but have found that using them in pistols they smoke pretty bad. Best bet is to just buy a couple boxes of everything you can get your hands on as you will shoot 5 or 10 rounds and can eliminate 75% of them right off the bat.

Re: Ammo test question?

If you do not have a bore snake, you can just find some other dirty, fowl, grit infested thing you would like to drag through your precison made, hand polished barrel. Really anyting can ruin it if you just make sure you get it nice and gritty and keep dragging it through the bore.
