Xi seems China as the world dominant force and not interested in sharing that crown with Russia. As China gets stronger, Russia is getting weaker, and Russia has strategic resources (oil) in parts of Siberia that were once Chinese, and easy for them to invade. Communists have no friends, only servants, and I expect Xi sees Russia as a bastard to true communism. With Russia engaged in Ukraine Xi could invade the Siberian oilfields and theres little Pooty could do about it.

There's a reason you keep hearing about how Russia isn't sending the full weight of its military. This is partially why.
