I sort of got talked into buying this...

I'm not ashamed to say that I'm going to pretty much going to copy LonewolfUSMC's budget build but with a couple of differences. I have a B&C M40-style stock on the way but the only one I could find that was in stock was grey with black webbing. I'm not too keen on that particular pattern but considering that these things seem to be going like hot cakes I took what I could get. I can always krylon it or get it dipped in a pattern later on.

Eventually it will get a bolt knob conversion and the stock will be inletted for a DBM assembly as well. My overall plan is to see if I can keep things under $1500 for a capable system.

I woulda' picked up a PSS stock from the Classifieds and skim bedded it, but that's just me.

Should be a fun project and you'll be laughin' if it shoots!

    Phase 1 complete!

The B&C M40 stock came in so I dropped the barreled action in and torqued it down.

This is the last time the rifle will look like this though, it's going to GAP today to get inletted for a DBM and a bolt knob. Till next time!

Couldn't agree more with the above statement. A lot of People hate the Remington triggers but I had one worked over by my local gunsmith and it made a world of difference. I would look into a Timney or have GAP fine tune the one you have.

    Good luck

I thought I'd post some updates to my "budget" assembliage of parts into a precision rifle that I didn't build.

The new PTG DBM assembly came in and so far I'm pretty impressed with it in both quality and the price...a great value IMO.

The new trigger also arrived today, not that I can do much with it since the bolt is still at GAP but I do love the old style triggers.

Since I really wasn't a fan of the gray stock I've been practicing doing a multicam-like pattern on my bitch stock so that I don't totally screw up the B&C. After a few practice sessions I think I've got it down which colors to do in what order, I just have to make some adjustments with the stencils.

In the end it will look something like this...

I plan on painting the optic to match the barreled action so it should all look pretty good. I'm not using anything special or extravagant, just krylon and rustoleum from the hardware store. Pretty much everything is here that will complete Phase 2 except for the stock and bolt.

I am very interested to see how this turns out. I am looking into putting something together for 1-500 yards & not spend a ton of cash. Looking forward to the end result.

I have pretty much the same set-up and would be interested in hearing about your painting experience and how it turns out. I would like to screw up my courage to try some krylon on mine but I'm a little nervous. I have the black with white webbing B&C M40.

Very nice. I used the PTG Stealth with a Gap inlet on my LTR stock/Rem700 AAC build and it fit like a glove. Nice stuff. Mine is cut to 18 inches, though. Getting 1/2 moa with FGMM 168 and a 4x optic. Sweet little rifles.

Ok, I got the stock and bolt back from GAP this week and it was just too tempting to leave it all in pieces while I got ready to paint everything. The barreled action and DBM were going to be khaki but I changed my mind to go with OD so I stripped everything back down..ahh the joy of rattle can finishes. I still have to cut the template out for the multicam and tape everything up but hopefully by this weekend I'll be wrapping this project up.

As near as I can tell the inletting was perfect for the DBM, feeding has been excellent with snap caps from both AICS and Alpha Mags. The bolt handle was equally as well done and I consider any money spent at GA Precision to be money well spent.

I'm using shims from PWS to pad out the thread protector a bit so it's not flush with the muzzle. The shims will also help me time the Daniel Defense muzzle brake that will be going on the gun eventually. I'd looked at a couple of sub-$100 brakes but I liked the looks of it so it'll be interesting to see how effective it is as a compact, single chamber design. The dimensions on this little guy are about .860" in diameter and just under two inches in length.

I'm happy to say that I actually came in under my $1500 budget for this gun by about $10. I'll be sure to update again later after I get some rounds through it or get the paint done.
