Picked up a Razor G3 and the Zeiss went back on my 6arc gasser. Planning on going to zero both tomorrow. Looking forward to comparing them side by side.
Welp, looks like I am going to get me first experience in cleaning a carbon ring. Last range trip I noticed the bolt getting a little hard to close. Today after zeroing, about 35 rounds in it became pretty much impossible to close the bolt and had to hit the bolt knob to eject the unfired round. Tried it again with a fresh round and same thing. Looked at the unfired rounds and saw this. Unfortunately My Garmin was dead when I got to the range so could not get any velocity numbers to compare to normal. Any great suggestions on getting the carbon ring taken care of?
After messing around a bit, I think it is Ammo related. The ammo pictured above is 140gr Hornady ELDM which this rifle has seen hundreds. Tried a different box and chambered as usual. Tried some Federal GMM and it also chambered, a littl tighter close, but reasonable.
I just use a cotton chamber mop, put some bore tech carbon remover on it and push it in the neck area for 1 hr or so. Then patch it dry and it’s usually good to go. If it’s sloppy in the chamber I put a 30 cal patch around the mop.
Got a chance to take her out to 1010yds Friday. WIndage was a little tricky since there was no berm behind the Targets and spotting misses was near impossible. Once dialed hit a 10" round plate 3 out of 5. Elevation consistancy with Federal GMM 140gr Bergers was really impressive.
Setting up a chance to try to go out to a mile in the net few weeks. Realized I would be about 3mils short in elevation adjustment. I don't really like holding as much as dialing, so ordered a 40moa rail from Murphy Precision. I assume zeroing at 100yds with the 40moa rail should not be an issue.
