I try anealing some brass and it would get the blue line at 6 or 7 seconds. Then I did my lapua brass and it took 7 or 8 secconds but it would get a yellow or orange looking ring. I did oone lapua longer and if I did it for 9 seconds it turned red so I know I didnt under do it. here is a pic I'll post better ones in alittle bit.

If I heated it for another second it would turn red and I did some till it got real red and it had the same color ring. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: Gene Poole</div><div class="ubbcode-body">It's hard to tell from that picture, but it looks to me like they didn't get quite hot enough. </div></div>

Re: annealing how did I do?

It looks like you may be there. I turn the lights out and look for a VERY dull red glow. All indications are that this is within the acceptable range.

I shoot a .375 CT Improved with up to 142 gr of Retumbo and a 35 degree neck and have 8 firings on some cases without a cracked neck, annealing every third firing. I start by fire forming the cases to expand the body and steepen the neck angle, then neck size, so the brass has already been worked pretty hard by the first firing.

Maybe close up pictures of the neck area will prove me wrong as well as the mass amount of opinions that surface with the subject of annealing brass cases but. I think you may have to much heat in the neck area? Dulling and signs of burn marks, I may be wrong once better pics follow. How did your heat paint check come out?

Re: annealing how did I do?

I did a test on some other brass that the ring did turn blue and when I put them in the tumbler They would make the yellow ring. I think it has something to do with them being clean. I'm pretty sure I did it right I have tried everything I could think of.
