"The families of Aurora deserve a vote. The families of Oak Creek, and Tucson, and Blacksburg, and the countless other communities ripped open by gun violence - they deserve a simple vote." - President Barack Obama

Dear Kirk -

Did you watch the State of the Union Address last night?

There's no doubt that Democrats and Republicans remain divided on many important issues, but reducing gun violence unified the chamber in a way that inspired us both.

After spending yesterday evening in the gallery, we are back at the Capitol today to talk face-to-face with congressional leadership about the importance of acting right now.

But we need to make sure Congress hears from all of us.

Will you amplify our voices and tell your Senator that you are one of the over 90 percent of Americans that support universal background checks? Call 1-888-284-5479, or you can use the Americans for Responsible Solutions click-to-call tool and we'll make the connection for you:

I'm certainly at odds with the Gifford's new found interest in restricting our 2nd Amendment rights, but I must admit that I'm almost inclined to give Ms. Giffords a pass on criticism. She used to be regarded as a fairly pro-gun politician from what I understand, but never seemed like a pro-gun person. After going through what she went through (without any real personal interest in guns), I guess I can understand how she came to her newly formed hatred towards guns.

I definitely don't think she's right, but I guess I still have some empathy for her.

Re: Another email from the Giffords

I agree... to a point. I too have some sympathy for her (I've never been shot, so no empathy), but that doesn't mean I can't strongly disagree with her. She has a right to her opinion, but I think it's unfair that she gets the medias megaphone and the thousands of women who have defended themselves with a gun (some without firing a single shot) won't be heard.

Agreed.

I have no idea, I have sent over 30 emails to congress, senators, etc, maybe one of those emails put me on the list since they don't read the content most of the time

Re: Another email from the Giffords

Has Mrs. Giffords ever stated any of this personally or is she just being exploited by the media and the anti-gunners? I saw her at the State of the Union and she could barely clap her hands. I have a feeling she is being told what to say and do, or at least being heavily coached.

I'm sympathetic towards her for what happened. But her hoping on the Gun Control bandwagon is a crock of shit. None of the proposed ideas would have prevented any of the past killings with the exception of revamping or reinstating mental health checks and awareness. That's the commonality in the past shooting sprees. As I understand it, they (The Gifford's) own a pile of firearms...yet they wanna criminalize "US"??!... I'm sure they would be excluded.
I stand by my thoughts, they're "Douches"
