My 64 MPR extracts every spent case NP, but it does not "eject" all the cases. About 1 out of 5 empty cases ends up on top of the next live round in the mag. It has gotten to be a real pain as I have check each time to be sure the case left the gun.

Anyone else have this issue? Is this common with these rifles? My first Anschutz.

Most important question, how do I resolve the problem??

Thanks in advance!

Re: Anschutz 64 MPR ejection issue

Welcome to Anschutz ownership. It is very common and Anschutz knows it happens. A really good rimfire smith can make it better but I can't reccomend any..sorry. I assume you have an open topped rail. My Murphy Precision rail almost completely alleviated this problem. I have a theory that you can make an angled brass deflector with brass shim stock that will help by deflecting them out the loading port. Talk to Tres Mon as he was working on this at one time. You can't limp wrist the bolt but you don't want to snatch it back too hard as you will be hammering the sear. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Re: Anschutz 64 MPR ejection issue

Thanks Armor.

I have a DIP 20 MOA rail and it is open. I never slam the bolt, but I do run it hard enough it should eject.

It just aggrivates me when it doesn't eject and the empty gets hung as I try to load a new round. Now I feel I have to watch every case to be sure it clears. It distracts my concentration, but I guess I will just have to get used it??

I'll check with Tres Mon and see if he got anywhere.

Thanks again

Re: Anschutz 64 MPR ejection issue

Hey Diesel,

Decided to give this a try in my "office" tonight. I have nice old set of Starrett micrometers always setting in my desk. Gift from my long deceased Father-In-Law.

Pulled out the bolt, took the extractor out and it miked at .0091 I used a medium grit, diamond knife sharpening stone to remove some of the metal as described. This stone has a perfect 90 degree edge and I could take a little off at a time in just a few minutes. This also helped keep the part very smooth ad square during removal.

I took off .0003 down to .0088 reassembled and nothing different using cheap bulk ammo. Diassembled bolt again and took off another .0003 down to .0086. This time I used the same cheap bulk Remmy ammo in it so as not to mess up my better stuff. Now it only ejected 3 out of 5 shells and the other two remained in the chamber and I had to extract them with a knife edge.

Now I'm thinking, OK you screwed that up so order another extractor and do it again. I just thought about miking a few of those cheap shell rims and they were all over the place.

Got out a box Wolf Match Target and the rims were very consistent. Loaded 5 in the mag and the 64 MPR proceded to eject each one about 5-6 feet out away from the rifle, even with nice easy bolt movement. I did this 4 more times and all 25 rounds extracted and ejected perfect.

The real test will be to fire some ammo and see how this works on spent cases, not live ammo. I am hoping it is going to work just as well with spent cases as it did with live ammo.

I'll post a follow up after I get a chance to fire some ammo through it. To be on the safe I am also going to order two spares extractors tomorrow. LOL

Thanks to all for your help.
