Anschutz 64 MS

They made this rifle in single shot and repeater. I have a chance to buy one, but it is a single shot. I am not a big fan of a single shot 22LR, but that is just me.

My question is; are there advantages of a single shot VS the same rifle in a repeater?

I understand the advantages to having more rounds available wth a repeater, but maybe the single shot has distinct advantages that I just haven't thought of?

BTW it is great looking rifle with an older variable power Weaver scope mounted on it.

The big one that pops out to me is that some rifles may have a problem feeding 22lr bullets through their magazines improperly. For instance, your first 3 shots function properly and flawlessly, then the 4th goes way away from your group and it's too far off to be called a flier. One reason could be that upon loading this shot into the chamber, the soft lead bullet of the 22lr cartridge was "shaven" off a bit by the sharp edge of your rifle's chamber, causing an erratic flight, and thus you have the amazingly distant impact that frustrates you very much.

I don't think most people will have this problem constantly but it is very well possible through a magazine fed rifle. I know I have had it happen in a Ruger 10/22 and my Savage MkII as well and it is frustrating. Now in a single shot, the chances of this happening are very slim. Much more so than if you were to fire from a magazine. You really shouldn't have feeding problems at all with an Anschutz rifle but then again, anything is possible.

But many problems are due to the shooter and cannot be blamed on the rifle. I know for a fact I can feel when a bullet bites the edge of my rifles chamber and if I neglect to extract it I find it hard to blame the rifle when the impact goes several inches off of the target when it was me who chose not to retrieve the bullet when I knew for a fact it would produce a result that was less than satisfactory. I don't see many reasons to have a single shot over a repeater but I do want one regardless if for no better reason than just to see if I like it more or not for the type of shooting I would plan to use it for, mainly competitions where time isn't a factor. YMMV

Never had that issue with my 64MSR or my 1712.

I'd get a repeater. I sold my 64MSR a couple years ago and have been kicking myself ever since. If I see another when I have any money at all I will be replacing it.

The only thing I ever hear is that the single shots will be a slightly stiffer action. I have a 1413 supermatch which is a single shot and does not bother me single loading. Conversely, if I were going to shoot sillywet or pop vermin instead of ISSF style comps I would opt for the repeater.
