Not worth it, it's for ranges you visit that have 2-way fire. If you don't expect to fight hostiles, don't bother, it's just a tacticool option in that case. A sunshade is probably what you are looking for.

nope. and it will decrease the available light coming into the tube, making marginal light situations even more difficult.
