Any body have a GA Precision Rock and love it?

I have a Gap 308 and it is great. Super accurate. That said mine is an a AICS and if I was doing it again I would get a AI factory rifle.

mine is a templar action with LTR contour 20" Bartlien.

That is the first rifle I purchased from GAP. A week later, I ordered one on a Surgeon action and AICS chassis. After I received the second rifle, I ordered another and so on. I seem to order something from GAP at least twice a year. Thanks to the Hide and GA Precision. I got hooked and enjoy every rifle I had them build. I would just skip the rock and go for a Crusader or at least upgrade the Remington action to a Templar action.

Either way, I think you will be more that satisfied and will continue to buy more. They do build excellent rifles. I just had them build me another 338 Lapua on a Badger action and another 260 on a Badger also. I have a few actions sitting and will probably send them in soon to have them built into a Creedmoor, just not sure which caliber, 6mm or 6.5.

I have an original GAP Rock that is still one of my favorite rifles. I competed with it for many years, and I will never alter it. It is almost impossible to shoot poorly. The only thing I love more is my AI.

Had 2 GAP builds that were essentially tweaked Rocks. One had a 20" LW and other one was in a Manners MCST. They just seemed like pigs. Sold both and have a Thunder Ranch in 6.5x47 with v2 action instead.

Just my 2c: MCS-T instead HTG is a must. M40 contour just real heavy, hell even GAP#6 is fairly heavy. Deviant instead of R700 is worth the $.

Love the TR, but if I did it again after owning these 3 rifles, I would spec the build even lighter as:

- GAP Templar V2 action (comes standard with medium firing pin)
- Manners MCS-TA Elite shell (I would pay the difference to save 3oz for LRI ULTACH 2.4)
- APA RTG DBM vs Mini-chassis
- Bartlein RV/Sendero (if chasing weight, then Proof Sendero)

Awaiting my second GAP rifle as we speak. They make a great product that shoots. My first was a Rock basically with tweaks that I knew I wanted.

I totally get the weight concern. But I'm not so much looking to hunt with it. Just shooting enjoyment. Great feedback. Thank you.

Regardless if you pick a rifle off there site, tweak one a little, or collect all the parts and send them to GAP you will be happy. They built me two rifles. One was like a rock with a few different parts and the other is basically a Crusader with Rem Varmint barrel. Couldn't be happier with either. I sold the rockish rifle. I regret that. I will eventually build a rifle geared more to hunting and will collect parts and then send them off to GAP. Enjoy your new rifle. Waiting is the worst part after you order.

As spec'd they might be the best all around rifle ever built. Definitely get it with the deep flutes, which I believe is how it's spec'd anyway (both samples I had were deep fluted), the deep flutes make a huge difference in weight and balance vs a standard M24 contour. Personally I wouldn't vary from the spec build at all except going with adjustable cheek, or going to a A1-3. If sticking with 308 so that barrel life isn't much of a concern then I would also give serious consideration to using a Proof CF barrel.

This is an interesting question. In short, the features of the rock were very typical of rifles of that era. Essentially a fluted barrel m40a1. If you were walking a range in the late 90's and early 2000's, every tactical rifle on the line looked like this. It was a pattern...everyone's idea of what a "sniper" rifle should look like. Its nearly identical to GA's base rifle, but with BO bottom metal and fluting.

Today, the pattern rifle would have an A5 or Manners equivalent stock, or a chassis system, 6.5mm of some flavor, a somewhat lighter contour barrel, no fluting, a detach mag system, a muzzle brake, and if you had some extra coin, a remclone action. A much better rifle, for not much more money.

My second custom rifle was a GA built gun, and I went bananas with it. It was awesome! Never regretted it, and the only step up FOR ME, was an AIAW. Don't buy the Rock. Youre a few hundred bucks away from bananas, and the last rifle you'll ever need.

Sound advice. Thanks!
