Just bought some jc targets (12x12, 8x8, (4)4x4, 3in diamond) and was wondering if you guys have any favorite shooting games to play with .22 at the range. I figured id set up the 4 4x4s on t posts and move them around and use a comp timer to see who can run the order the quickest but if you guys have any other ideas of fun skill building drills im all ears.

I use reactive targets. ballons, lolipops, cans, soda bottles, old fruit, popper steel targets, dueling trees, hang cans with string like wind chimes, etc.
Birchwood and Casey makes battleship and golf splatter targets games.
Sometimes ill staple an odd shape peice of contruction paper over the center ring of a target and try to group closest to the x.
after easter I take all the eggs and hide them along the range and time my opponent. he resets and hides my targets, then times me.
ive camoflauged fruit out in field with shubs and timed my buddy . he resets for me.
grab some cards from a deck , randomize them together on a copy machine, print it. draw a card, shoot it as fast as you can. for added difficulty: I get a red marker and a nickel and trace a circle in the middle for more points. ive also made random quater and dime ones per each card. 1 pt for card hit , 5 for quater, 10 for dime. -3 points for going over a time limit.
You could paint your steel different colors and arrange them randomly around the range like you mentioned. Then take a deck of candyland cards corresponding to the colors. draw for a 3 targets. shoot them quick.
its also fun to randomize or "draw" your shooting position. (prone, bench, standing etc.)

This was built to keep the fun going. 10 plate rack from 2-6" in diameter. Auto resets when the last 6" plate falls. You could make the reset on the 2" but then folks that can't hit the smaller plates can't have any fun.

Well since my welding and mechanical skills will likely never match jmorris. The only suggestion I have is a couple dueling trees and a timer. With a couple trees you can vary the distance and have fun by yourself or with a couple shooters.

In cold weather, print targets wtih flies on them, shoot for kills. In warmer months, smear bacon grease on your target paper (use an all while or other light color paper) and shoot live. Hits must be obvious.

Or shoot a medicine match - glue tylenols, tums, or other otc meds onto the end of a tooth pick. Shoot at 25 or 50 yards.

For real challenge, glue airsoft bbs to fishing line and hang 'em down to dangle. Or post 'em up on a tooth pick.

Split playing cards.

Golf balls at 75-150 yards

Q-tips stuck in the corrugated end of cardboard at varying yardage. Shoot off the cotton then work down the stem.

Paintballs - run a long piece of scotch tape over the paintball to a piece of cardboard.

Suspend a small opening washer with fishing string. Mount cardboard behind washer. Shoot cardboard target through washer without hitting the washer. (Challenge - move washer closer to you and farther from cardboard.) Especially fun in the wind. On your last shot of the day, shoot the fishing string.

Just a few....

My 5 year old and I like to play cards- I take several playing cards and staple them to a post. Then we challenge each other to shoot either the center figure or shape, or the number on the corner. I was pretty proud of my son, he shot a 4 shot group that was all inside the body of the king of diamonds at 40 yards from a kneeling supported position. Cheap and fun. I have done that with my buddies at 200 yards with our centerfire rigs, pretty good fun.

Golf balls on the tee. When you shot the balls off the tee move on to shooting the tee.
And clay pigeons are fun. Not neccessarilly when they're whole shooting the small broken pieces are a blast.
And I enjoy shooting the green meanie. It's fun yet challenging.

I had a identification stage at our 22 tactical match today. Got some old plastic army men out and glued them to cardboard boxes. Then I took pictures of them on my cell phone. I'd show each shooter a different pic and he had to find the intended army man to engage it at 50Y.

Another stage was at 25Y. 2 playing cards to cut in half with the bullet, 4 match sticks to break with extra points if you lit the match and a fine red string under tension by a lever and rubber bands. It was a super fun stage!

+ 1 Plastic army men, Necco wafer candies, cheap lollipops, golf balls, wine bottle corks. I scored a bunch of poker chips from a junk truck we cut up with a Hurst tool, I have a length of 2 x 4 I am going to cut a shallow groove in to stand them up but haven't yet.

Cory, we shoot poker chips also and just use small pieces of double sided sticky tape to hold them on cardboard. I agree, plastic Army men are fun. Good ideas being posted here.
