Any announcements on the BEAST from SHOT yet? Also, anyone there looked through it, played with it, etc? Was it out on the range on the media day for anyone to shoot with yet? Did the MIL/MIL make an appearance?

I hope its all that and a bag of chips - sounds like an interesting scope that I'll put on my bucket list when they become available.

Posted this pic before but here it is again. I fondled the Mil-R BEAST. It is awesome. Eyebox is great, turrets are MUCH better than the NXS's. It does exist and it appears worth the $, have no fear. I loved the elevation brake and the windage lock. Windage is locked when you reach zero, push a button and move it off zero and it acts like a regular knob. When you get back to zero it locks again. I haven't seen that on a scope and I thought it was very thoughtful. I HATE capped windage.

It's hard to judge glass inside the small room Nightforce is in but it looked stellar just based on eyebox. Image edges were sharp and clear, and very bright.

My only "meh" is the Mil-R reticle itself, but that's personal preference. It's very useful for ranging but thicker than some other like the Gen 2 XR.

Keep hanging in there dudes, Nightforce took this one to a whole new level.

I'm incapable of surprise at that anymore. If I were CONUS I'd probably be irate. Although if I were CONUS I wouldn't be able to afford the BEAST, so I guess it's a wash. I've already had to buy one optic in the BEAST's price range as a stop-gap when I was home, and what NF needs to watch for is the guys with the BEAST on order that may be able to get their hands on the latest/greatest optic from THIS year's SHOT before NF delivers from LAST year's show.

Despite my "tone", I'm still anxiously awaiting the BEAST. I had long said that if NF came out with an optic with that range of features, I'd buy it. The few guys who have gotten their hands on one have said it's worth the wait, so I'm going with that. However, there's a lot of guys with $3-4k on "reserve" for that scope, and if someone else gets their product to market first, I think some dealers may see an exodus, which would suck for a lot of folks in the industry.
 
Spent some time with the Reps....

1.) Its coming trust me they want to get it out to everyone badly.
2.) Anyone who buys the S&B or Hendsoldt 6k+ Optics is a fool over buying this. The BEAST is better in every possible way.

I'm not kidding, Henny used to be the king of the eyebox and glass quality. Well not anymore.....the BEAST is there.PERIOD.

Once NF gets them out into more hands I honestly think your going to see a lot of shooters start to migrate toward it and the market is going to be flooded with used S&B.
 
Thanks Poison, that's good to hear. I whine about the delay, but after they missed my leave window in the Fall, it really doesn't matter. If it showed up today I wouldn't get to see it till October or so. If it's worth the wait, then I'm happy. It's just a PITA having that money literally "set aside" and remembering not to touch it so that when I get notified I can complete the sale without having to ask the dealer to hold off for a few weeks so I can get the money together.

It seems from this SHOT, that a number of guys have found what they personally believe to be the greatest thing since internet porn. To each their own, I don't need the BEAST to be "the best", I just need it to meet the expectations of what we paid for.

Its the scope we've all been asking NF for, for years. 5-25 FFP.

The Beast is the best of the bunch too me. I have played with them all at shot except for the March scopes. Going by their booth tomorrow. I would put it a head of my S&B 5-25. The eye box is ridiculous. You put the rifle up to your shoulder and there it is. No fiddling around. It is much shorter than I thought it would be. The turrets may take a little getting used to, but with use I think I will really like them. This scope is amazing.

I am with poison on this. I don't think I will even consider S&B when these finally get released.

Well now, that's not totally accurate, as there have been SEVERAL "official" release dates, they've just all come and gone. ;)

Lowlight posted an update a week or 2 ago saying that it's coming, and that the delays aren't a quality issue, but rather an issue of ensuring that the manufacturing process MAINTAINS the quality before they're willing to ship them out. Even with all the new stuff at SHOT, a number of guys who got to play with the BEAST felt as though it is STILL worth waiting for, even with the new "competition" that's just been previewed.

ETA: Sorry, apparently I had a lag, or was typing REALLY slow, as I see Lowlight provided a more accurate update. Apologies.

You must not have asked nice enough ;) I was told same as Lowlight. Looks like light at the end of the tunnel for people who ordered them.

I've got to figure out how to butter them up enough to get that sort of intel out of them.
 
Still waiting in mine, I believe I'm #2 at a good size vendor. I haven't called to ask an ETA since I preordered though, I figure it will get here when it gets here and the vendor probably doesn't have any better idea of an ETA than I do.

I just hope it's here before I come up with another $7K for an AX300MC.
 
I'd like to pick one up for a rifle I'm working on... Does anyone know if any vendors have preorder spots available still? Worse comes to worse I can settle on the ATACR for now and buy again when they're more mainstream

You can get on a list......but pretty sure they are all sold till probably end of the year. But ya never know.
 
Yeah that's what I figured, I'm in no hurry but I'd like to get the glass by this summer... I should have figured this out sooner but I, like many others, thought they'd be on the market by now.

Check with Euro Optic, at one point they had a bunch on pre-order and had some open slots remaining. LaRue has taken the BEAST off of their webpage, which I took as an indication that they weren't pre-selling any more (but they did confirm when I asked that those of us with pre-orders were still in the system).

If nothing else, I'd imagine that by the time the BEAST is ready to ship, a number of guys will have gone another direction since they pre-ordered and you may be able to pick up one of their slots.
 
Please.....let the market flooding of S&B 5-25's start as soon as possible. I'm needing one of those pieces of shit.

I don't think anyone is saying the S&B 5-25's are pieces of shit. I own one and still consider it to be the best 5-25 out. That is until the Beast starts making it's way to consumers hands. I got to play with one at Shot and I think it has the potential to be a better scope. We will see when I get one to put through it's paces.

It was really just a play on words JSF. From what I hear, the Beast is a nice scope.

Ehhhh while the Beast is certainly nice, it's not a Hensoldt. Their PSR scope is the clearest optic I have ever looked thru. The color and clarity for indoors was astonishing. I was blown away. But the price is outrageous! I would not pay that much for it.
I am still waiting on the Beast, we were one of the first 20 orders back when they started taking pre-orders for them.

Ok. I'll give you that, I might have been over zealous...but I would love to put them next to each other and do a field comparison. That might have happen with the old 4k+ quoted price......they can suck it for the 6k+ though.

You're right. Canceled my BEAST preorder from early March 2013 and ordered an S&B 5-25X for my incoming AI AXMC308. I hope you guys will get your BEAST before 2015. My canceling moves one of you up on the list. Good luck!

I have been wondering while reading all these posts about delays due to production issues, if the indroductory price offered on the BEAST will be increased dramatically after the initial run is through?
