Gunsmithing any word of this muzzle brake?

Re: any word of this muzzle brake?

The Vais is a good brake

They direct some of the blast forward away from the shooter, which a benefit.

There are a fair number og guides and outfitters who ban brakes that are ok with the Vais.

I have three on my hunting rifles, 340 Wby, 300 Win & 270 Wby and have used them on customers guns with no complaints so far.

My 340 Wby shoots like a .308 win with the brake on, so its quite effective.

I've never run one on a tactical rifle though.

Re: any word of this muzzle brake?

The Vais is a good brake. It is effective, comes in numerous configurations/thread patterns/calibers/etc. and some can be turned down to match up with a specific barrel contour. They also tend to be "LESS" noisy than other brakes on the market, but it is still loud enough that I HIGHLY recommend using ear pro if you would happen to be running the rifle in a hunting situation.

On the "down sides"...because the brake has porting 360 degrees, it can kick up a LOT of crap if you are shooting prone over top of lose dirt/sand/etc. which can be a real PITA.

Re: any word of this muzzle brake?

^^ +1 What ORD stated.

I run the Vias on three target rifles (.308, .260, and 22-250), and also as thread/crown protector. They are also able to be fit to accomodate the longer shank for a suppressor intended muzzle. Or R&D Precision had a custom Vias brake supplied, I don't recall.

As stated, the Vias brake doesn't direct as much report back to the shooter. With that, I doubt they are not the most recoil reducing brake on the market. With a .308, I'd rather not feel far greater acousic concussion vs. the recoil.

The only other brake I run is a Answer and I don't think those are made anymore. That one has some dirt respect.

Re: any word of this muzzle brake?

We call them "salad shooters". Your shooting partner will hate it if your shooting a team prone match. He'll have to dump the vegetation out of his objective.

Re: any word of this muzzle brake?

If your interested in a radial port brake like Vais, why not save some money and get a Harrells Precision. $30 shipped can't be beat and can't ask for better service.

Re: any word of this muzzle brake?

The brake does have 360 degree ports. It is a good choice for barrel that is already threaded and you want to install it yourself. It probably wont need to be timmed. Just screw it on. R&D precision sells the RAD Brake here in the commercial thread. I highly recommend it.

You can tap the bottom holes and put screws in it. My buddie did that after all my bitching. Cut the heads off, grind to length and lock tite them in there. Worked well.
