Mine has a hollow spot at 6 o'clock on the forearm but I was thinking of trying to add a rail behind the the bipod stud. I'm using a Harris bipod so I need the stud. I was thinking of using it to attach to a picatinny mount for a tripod. Is this doable?

I've got a similar project ready to assemble for my AIAE. I'm going to attach an Arca Swiss camera mount on the hand stop rail (same place you mentioned).

Yes, you can add a pic rail to that slot, Alamo four star makes a rail section for it I believe. However, before you go down that road, pick your gun up and feel where the CG/ balance point on the AICS is. Also, with the Harris in place, you will have very little usable rail available, especial if you have a Pod-Loc on it, to attach to a tripod mount. Also keep in mind if you go with a PIC rail as the attachment to the tripod you are looking at using a Alamo four star D-loc, which you might be able to find at one of their dealers but don't expect to find/order one off of their website as they are basically not producing them any more as far as I can tell. Your only other option is to go with the Larue pic mount which limits you to using a Manfrotto tripod/ball grip combo they sell on the larue website.

My suggestion for an AICS (which I have and why I know all of this) is to go with a PRS saddle. If you insist on having it secured into the tripod then go with a HOG saddle(which is way overpriced IMO) or better yet, with a Rogue Precision R-clamp made by a double amputee marine right here in the USA.
