Forgive me if this isn't the proper place for it, but i've read through quite a few vintage rifle threads here and quite a few of you are damn impressive at identifying certain rifles by proof marks and whatnot.

Appears to be a model 31, but can anyone identify this proof mark pr notice anything about the rifle that stands out? Asking for a friend whose grandfather passed, leaving him the rifle

As 101st said, the Model is a 91/30. The 1931 was when it was refurbished. They started refurbishing original model 1891's in 1930. So, the shortened nomenclature is 91/30. And again, as 101st noted the triangle is an Ishevsk. If you see a star in that spot it's a Tula.

IMO, Tula's shot a little better. Neither were superb shooters, but far better than the myth that has them at not being able to hit the broadside of a barn. Tula's were finished out better on the outside. Izzy's tended to look like the action had a final go-over with a corn cob. Yours looks pretty nice in comparison to some I've seen.

When they were $39.99 at various points of sale, I wouldn't touch one. Like 101st I now wish I had invested in several. The follies of youth believing the stocks of Mausers and Mosins never drying up. I got mine at Fleet-Farm in Lakeville, MN for $89.99. When I started shooting it I was pretty amazed at how well it really shot. When I started shooting reloads is when I was able to wring some pretty good accuracy out of it. I never felt I had overspent at all.
