I am in the process of getting a custom/semi-custom .300 WIN MAG when I get back from Afghanistan. Anyway, I looked around and HS precision offers dealer pricing for Mil/LE members. So.... I get several hundred dollars off the MSRP, which puts the HTR at around mid 2k.

How does HS precision compare with other builders? Any advice on HS precision would be great.

Re: Anyone had experience with HS precision?

i have had a hsp htr in 300 win mag for years now. the action is absolutely smooth as can be. it has always shot great for me. the magazine system is the only thing i don't care for. if feeds flawlessly but it is not as user friendly as a badger system. you are also limited to 3 rounds in the mag for 300 win mag.

Re: Anyone had experience with HS precision?

I took a class a couple years back and shot next to a guy who was using one in .308. It was a fantastic gun in my opinion. I shot a few rounds out of it and thought the action felt very good and the trigger was nice. The only thing I did not like about it was the Leupold mounted on it. I kept thinking there must be something blocking the objective as the image looked so dark. lol

It shot 1/2 MOA or better all the time, for the money and for what you get I think they are a bargain.

I've has this one for a few years and it shoots great, only thing I didn't like was the tiny bolt knob they install but Kampfeld Customs took care of that and also fluted the bolt.

We've got five of them and they shoot. The HS receivers are very nice and their barrels certainly seem to be adequate. I've always liked the three position safeties on the bolt shroud like the Winchesters. I don't like their stocks (easy to pull the bipod studs out) and as mentioned their magazines leave a bit to be desired.

Re: Anyone had experience with HS precision?

Got mine in Jan 09,--- took 8.5 months from time of order but I think it was worth the wait. Its chambered in 30.06 and has the smoothest action of any bolt gun I ever used. (Disregard the messy loading bench). The rifle is capable of 1/2 MOA at 100 yards as promised by HS Precision. The second photo is a 300 yard 10 round shot group from last Apr. Wish I could say I always shoot that good but alas, that is not always the case.

Re: Anyone had experience with HS precision?

I have a HTR, it is a tack driver. Down side are: mags expensive and hard to find. 20MOA base expensive. My particular HTR has a defect, I belive the scope mounting holes are off centered. I tried differnt rings etc. my M1 LR is about 8 clicks from the end of windage. No good beyond 600 yds. It is such a great shooter I do not want to mess with it. A rep at HS Prec. said I can use my mil dot to compensate.... Again they are good shooters but I would recommend a GAP or AI. GTG

if they really told you to just use your mildots to hold because you can't get a wind zero, that is bullshit. are you using their base also? how long have you had it? if it were me, that thing would have been sent back for repair/replacement. if they told me to just use hold overs after 600 yards because of a windage problem with the rifle, it would be sent back for a full refund.

Re: Anyone had experience with HS precision?

I have an H&S Precision HTR in 308. I know some people don't like their stocks but I do because it fits my body better then most stocks. Of course I have not tried all stocks so may be there is one out there that is better but for the moment it works well for me.

I got a great deal on mine a couple years back. I paid 1800.00 for a HTR before the FBI bought some and made the price go up. It is a nice shooter. 1/2 MOA at a 100 and have shot it to 500 and it stayed close to 1/2 to 1 MOA but most of that depended on me.
