Dang Willys, that is one fine looking rifle. How did it end up on the river?

While not walnut, I have an R700 .243 with a varmint barrel in a Stocky's Apache laminate stock (*NEW!* Bobby Hart AccuBlock Apache Laminated Thumbhole Riflestock - Remington 700). I was a knucklehead when I ordered the stock and didn't notice that it had a sporter barrel channel, so I had to open it up to clear the heavier varmint barrel.

I'll take a pic and post it when I get home this evening.

Edit: Pic, as promised

Yeah, yeah, crappy scope/rings/mounts... it'll all get replaced.

he did a whole thread back when it was stolen, and then found in a river. many a tear were shed.

Bkw has the story correct. I had a new one built by Joel Russo. He built the first one. This time I put it on a hunting rifle. The tactical shooting sport has changed in the last three years to include a LOT of barricade and prop shooting, so I caved and went with a manners this time around. The stocks get beat to hell shooting off barricades.

I really enjoy shooting a wood stock. You get way less vibration while shooting. It feels more solid. In the cold weather it does not feel as cold like many of the chassi systems. They suck the heat right out of ya.

I will be getting another wood stock built for another comp gun. Just have to pick the right wood!

Here is another Joel Russo. My walnut McM A3, which was ordered to be as plain as it gets. I wanted field grade walnut. (This is an older pic while it was waiting for glass).

The only bummer running wood is adding a stock pack, which takes away a lot of their beauty. =/

Wasn't the AI L96 prototype originally made of wood, wrapped around a chassis?

I've got this old dog lying around:
