Anyone shorten an AW mag?

I have a new hunting/field rifle I'm putting together. Defiance classic aw cut action, 2x 20" barrels in 6cm and 65cm. Likely using the spare mdt crbn stock. Gonna use a mdt adjustable latch dbm. I'm gonna machine all the excess aluminum that sits below the stock line to clean it up for true flush fit.

I want to use AW mags, so has anyone ever shortened an AW mag to say 5 or 6rd capacity, and re-tig welded the base plate back on?

Just an idea. What about making a new base from delrin or aluminum thick enough to drill and tap from from the sides for screws? That way it would still be removable.

I have tigged magazines; they can be very porous.

I had looked into something similar last year during my 7-08AI build.
I was looking for a medium length 308 based magazine. What popped up was the MDT 10 round, someone directed my to a fellow that does shorten those magazines.
I cannot, for the life of me, find the information. If memory serves, the service was around 120 dollars, so, someone does it. I'll keep looking.

Are you looking for a flush fit mag? Because I don’t see you getting more than 3-4 rounds in a flush fit AW. And that’s with a custom spring and likely a custom metal follower (thinner).

Here’s my AW with a line I drew with the flush bottom metal on a rifle. Notice that line measures 5cm from the bottom and only 4cm to the top. You have to fit everything into that 40mm.

I'm cool with a lil below the belly line. A hawkins hunter mag holds 4. The AI aw holds 11 rds as it is, I figured removing half the height it'd still hold 5 rds. I wouldn't swap follower, just shorten the height of oem. The aw spring already is realstively low rates and compressed easily, I'd remove 1 bow, maybe 2 idk.
