post up a pic and model # if you can. looking for ideas on what size I need and how you all are doing it. I want to carry 100 rounds of 6.5 creedmoor to and from the range.
anyone use a pelican case to carry ammo

Well i use the green boxes now to carry my handloads. Between the last trip to the range and this one moisture made its way in and corroded the brass. I figured a waterproof pelican may solve my problem.

Are you going to pack it loose, or make dividers? I would think working with regular ammo carriers would be easier IMHO.
Going from a cool (relatively) dry house to a warm moist environment (cool metallic surface allows for moisture to condense on the surface once outside) is what caused your ammunition to corrode. A waterproof case wil not solve that problem. Make sure your ammo is dry and at the temp of the house when you put it away and you will not have any (or will have fewer) problems with corrosion. What is the daily temperature change in the area the ammunition is stored? How quickly does the temperature change? Is it stored in a garage or a basement, in a "bonus room, or otherwise below ground level? A garage is suseptible to large daily temp swings that could cause condensation to form. Basements and other rooms below ground level tend to be much more humid (even when "finished") then the rest of the house. None of my ammunition is stored in waterproof cotainers and it all shines as much or more than factory brass. By the way, I live in Houston so battling humidity is 24/7/365.
when its at home its in my safe that has a dehumidifying rod. but I think the moisture got in on the 4wheeler ride from were I park my car to my range. my rifle rides in its case and the ammo cases ride on the front rack of the 4wheeler with a few other things. I just think too much water got in that the rod in my safe couldn't dry it up before it tarnished the brass.

How bout a plastic ammo can from cabelas? Water tight seal and cheap. A pelican seems a little extreme. I have couple pelicans, but rarely use because they are heavy.

I considered one of those cabelas cans, because I have 4 of them now from ordering .223 and 9mm ammo in bulk from them. they are a little big for what I have in mind. if they made the green mtm boxes water tight i'd be all over them. I found a picture online that is pretty much what I have in mind just a little smaller.
I was at the store and I saw the Pelican 1300 which looks like what is in the picture. I think if you take a drill bit and just drill holes in the foam the same diameter of the round it will work just fine. The case itself is only about 30-50 bucks on ebay. I think you could use the case and but with maybe the plastic holders and place them in there would be able to fit the most rounds and just take the foam all out.
I see you found my case for my 50 bmg ammo. I made this from a Pelican 1300 case. it is a little overkill, but I got a good deal on a 1300 case on ebay.
I did exactly what mikeinh987 said.I cut some holes in some foam. First I ordered some closed cell foam, Polyethylene Foam, Roll, Tubes, Polyethylene Closed Cell Foam Sheets. You could probably find it cheaper. I cut the foam to match the case dimensions, I had to double up the 2 inch foam to fill the case better. Then I created a template for the holes in autocad. After that I drilled the holes out with a forstner bit that was slightly less then the case diameter. I used my drill press since the bit liked to move around to much with a battery drill. I could only get 40 rounds with the 50 case. I'm in the process of making another case for my 375 Cheytac. It sucks they dont make a shorter case then the 1300, since it is quite a bit taller then the 375 cases.

that's about the same as the cabelas ammo cans. a little big for what I want. but I think I found my solution. I found a diamond plated tool box like on for the back of a truck that fits one the front rack of my 4wheeler. water tight and pretty tough looking. i'm going to cut some foam for it to fit my sbr in there along with a place to store ammo.

I think the Pelican 1430 is actually the best look for regular ammo. It looks sort of like an ammo can but with the Pelican material.
I have to transport ammo in a locked container (NYC) so I ended up getting a Pelican 1200 and it fits an MTM R-100 medium rifle box with some room to spare on the side.
