In considering giving it a shot on a hunting rifle . I assume that prep in everything with this type of product ? I don't have access to a blaster for surface prep , sand paper ?

Before everyone says to cerokote it , Im not going to . I'm tired of shipping shit , my local cerokote guy sucks and he is overpriced. It'll be DIY or nothing on this one .

The DuraCoat products are pretty good for the do it yourselfer, is it as durable as Cerakote, no, but that doesn't mean it's shit either if you do the prep work right.

This is a Mossberg I just did this past week. It started out painted in OD Krylon so I stripped it, prepped, and refinished it with DuraCoat Aerosol spray. I'm totally happy with the results for $40.

You don't need a blaster, a Scotch Brite pad will be enough to roughen up the surface enough for the paint to adhere. The surface needs to be cleaned and degreased before you apply the paint. DuraCoat's TruStrip is pretty good but I've also used acetone and denatured alcohol before with pretty good results, including the above shotgun. Tape and/or plug where you don't want paint to get, apply the paint with about five or ten minutes in between coats, it's dry to the touch within an hour, and you can put it all together the next day.
