If you have the cash get a McM or MCS setup. I have had a couple of the B&C stocks and there is no comparrison. You might also be able to find a take off PSS stock for about $200 they work fine.

I looked at the McM stuff but they are proud of them.

If I was home I would offer to meet you at Tac Pro and let you feel up a McM and an AICS. Once you get to feel what real quality is then there is no comparison.

There are a few stocks listed in the 500-560 range.

Re: Anyone use one of these stocks?

While McMillan makes a fine stock, it sticks in my craw that after you drop all that money on a stock, you have to put in the effort of bedding the damn thing.
There are MANY very happy owners of B&C tactical stocks out there and it will be a tremendous improvement over the factory stock.

I went the Choate tactical route, they find much disfavor on this and other boards, but I got a rock solid stock with a full length aluminum bedding block that also has an adjustable length of pull and a bipod rail that allows you to adjust the postion of the bipod (about 10").

Buy the B&C or check out Stockade stocks and buy the money saver and a 25 buck fill kit. paint it yourself and have a very good stock for just a little more than the B&C.

Re: Anyone use one of these stocks?

Now we are getting somewhere. Shot this today. I am new to this site and long range stuff so don't laugh at me. The new B&C stock was a huge improvement in group sizes. I know its 2" off center but that group is a HELL of a lot better that where I started two weeks ago. They were 3"+. After I shot 20 or so through it I moved the scope 8 clicks to the left and it was right on the money but by then the barrel was starting to get fouled and the groups started opening up to 3/4" and larger. I forgot to bring a cleaning rod to the range so I just went home happy with the results. This gun seems like it shoots better just after a real good cleaning. I have some that shoot good with a dirty barrel. Seems like 20 shots is the max on this one and then it is time to clean. With a lot of practice and a little tweaking on some hand loads I hope I can do this at 300-400 yards or at least that is my goal.

Re: Anyone use one of these stocks?

I own this stock and it is excellent. I originally bought a fully adjustable but after handling it decided I needed niether the adjustment or the weight. I sold it to a Hide member and bought the non adj and have been totally satisfied, it is very strong and comfortable.

There IS a comparison. Several years ago a member here (cant remember who) conducted a very thorough comparison between an A5 and a B&C with the full aluminum bedding block, the B&C compared very well. The site had some sort of a crash not long after and lost a lot of its files, havn't been able to find it since. Not saying its better or worse than anything but I am saying that the B&C tactical is a very good stock and compares to many of the best.

Several weeks ago a few got in a Les Baer bashing contest here, cant remember what the thread was originally about. The target of most of neg. comments was LB's new Tactical Recon rifle and one of the main bashing points was the fact that LB decided to equip the rifle with the ("POS") fully adj. B&C tactical stock instead of a Mac or Manners. Bout a week later I get my August issue of American Rifleman. In it is an article and test written by AR's field editor Stanton Wormley on, you guessed it, Les Baer's Tactical Recon. Wormley's quite the enthusiast and tester and written about everything from 1911's to precision rifles. He stated in the article that the rifle was the most accurate .308 bolt gun he had ever tested.

"The Les Baer Custom Tactical Recon, fitted with a Nightforce 5.5-22X 56 mm NSX scope, turned in an average of 0.57" for five consecutive, five-shot groups with six different .308 win. factory loads"

I'm certainly not a pro but I know enough to understand that a rifle with anything other than a very good stock will NOT perform in that manner.

Re: Anyone use one of these stocks?

I searched very diligently on this website and talked with several gunsmiths and every stock manufacture on the planet before buying my B&C A2 vertical. One person I talked to compared B&C to McM stocks as being able to afford Calvin Klein jeans when we were in high school it was a name brand thing, when comparing apples to apples. I will be the first to buy what works best but not what is most popular. It's like playing golf against Tiger Woods he can take wal-mart golf clubs an be the pants off me I know good equipment is vital but accuracy primarily depends on the shooter
