Just started doing load development on my Long Rifles .243. 26" 1/8 Brux. Started with 4831SC and the 105 amax and got some nice groups. I see where lots of people are using 4350. Anyone else trying 4831sc?

I'm using 44.0 grains of 4831sc with sierra 107's and Lapua brass. No pressure signs, 2950fps velocity in a 28" bartlein barrel. I can get .28" groups with this combo. I have about 8 reloads on the brass, and looks like I need to anneal them because the sd and es went way up when I checked a couple weeks ago.
I know it's not 4831 but I used 45.5 grains of H1000 with 105s and a 27" barrel and accuracy was good and muzzle velocity was 3050 fps (with a suppressor). 4831 is a little faster than H1000 but slower than 4350 so it should be a nice compromise.
Update to above post:
Just got back from the range and tried the above load except used CCI BR primer. Shot very well. Also, I shot some naked bullets and some coated with hBN. Had same accuracy and poi. The rifle was a squared up 700 with 20" Douglas. OAL 2.645". Did under .75 moa.

I don't use H4831sc but with 48 grains of regular H4831 I'm getting 3120fps with 105gr hornady's BTHP match from a 22" 8 twist 4R Shilen.
what brass? that's got to be highly compressed.....or the 105's are barely seated.
Neck sized Winchester brass and the load is neither highly compressed nor bullets barely seated. COAL is 2.776 with the Hornady 105 BTHP Match. They are slightly compressed but you can still hear the powder shifting when shaking the round. Velocities have been confirmed by shooting out to 800 yards.
Yes and it is the tits especially if you have a longer pipe, in load development I was able to push a 105 Berger 3460 out of a 28" kreiger (49.0 gr on the lands, a bit of pressure) but settled for extreme accuracy down towards the speed limit of the match I mostly shoot with it. 44.5gn of 4831sc with a whopping .100 of jump in my tight neck 243AI makes 3030fps but drives tacks (tacks= 1/4moa at distance) (at distance = 600yds)
That's cool, but I'm a little surprised you didn't find an accuracy node in between there somewhere

It is good stuff behind 107 SMK and Berger 105 Hybrids. I like Retumbo and Ramshot Magnum better though, and I have a 26 inch barrel.
I don't. I use norma brass, and I shoot in temps from high 90's in the summer to well below zero in the winter. I've never had an issue with either lighting off with standard CCI 200 and Tula LRP. I use 47 gr of Retumbo (most accurate) or 49.5 gr of Ramshot Magnum.
I had pisspoor luck with H1000 and the 105 berger. Can't remember the charge I worked up to, but the case was FULL. Drop tubed in, then compressed. Velocity from 26" barrel was inconsistent, between 2975 and 3025. Accuracy was between fair and poor approaching 1 moa. I tried regular primers and magnum. Seemed the magnums were worth 15-20fps, but frankly the ES/SD was so crappy I can't be sure. Recoil was a dull thump. It was not a workable powder.
However, I plink with my 6xc using 41gr H1000 and the HRNDY 105bthp. I shoot them for short-mid range positional practice because they're cheap and easy on the barrel. They go about 2725fps and are relatively accurate, about 1/2-3/4 moa. Recoil again is a dull "thunk" compared to the stacotto pop it creates from a 105 berger @ 3125 from 39.5gr H4350.

I like slower powders than H4350. I found Retumbo and Magnum to be better with 107 SMK in my 26 inch barrels than the H4831 SC, but the H4831SC was still no slouch!! IMR 7828 is also a sleeper powder for .243 Winchester. I haven't used H4350 in .243 in a long time.
