I built a full ghillie about four years ago. It's a decent suit with 12 million hours into it but it could be better and isn't the most practical thing to drag around with me. As a result it hasn't seen the light of day in awhile so I went looking for something a little better. I just received an SC-2 Super Cobra from tactical concealment today so I need to get to work making it useful.

Been out of the ghillie scene for awhile now, just wondering if there is anything new to consider as far as the garnish? Natural veg is always preferred but I need to have a decent base of something permanent on there in the event I need it and don't have much time to prepare.

Tac Con has a few different types of garnsih they offer, and it's pretty good. Burlap still works great... not sure if there is any good synthetic stuff...

Jute, burlap, raffia (depending on your AO) and natural veg, veg is that edge as the ghillie experts say.

Nope.

Look at it this way. Nothing permanent will really look like natural veg. If you really need a ghillie, it's because you may be under close observation. If you are under close observation you have to take the time to veg up and field prep. If you won't be under close observation, just rock utilities and a boonie. Stuff some veg in the boonie to break it up and drive on.

I have successfully done concealments in utilities and a boonie. You just have to know how to setup a perfect loophole and stay low.

I see VERY, VERY few scenarios where a LE Sniper would need a full ghillie. Veils are where it's at.

Well darn. I was hoping there had been technological breakthroughs in the past year or so that resulted in realistic garnish that kept the wearer cool in the summer, warm in the winter, dry in the rain and invisible to everything including thermal devices.

Guess I'll stick with the conventional.

I'm not a big fan of synthetics, but the garnish shown in the pics below is the smartest garnish I have ever used. It is unlike anything else out there. It is a fraction of the weight of natural jute and is fire/water resistant to boot.

Unfortunately, I'm playing middle man on the acquisition for a large supply and neither end seems willing to compromise enough to make it happen at this point.

Fortunately though, I was smart enough to keep a modest supply for myself for future needs.

Trust me fellas, if I could get this out into our customers hands, I would. This has been a great source of personal frustration for me, especially knowing it could be put to good use by professionals here in the US and abroad.

Unfortunately, I'm just a designer/rep, so purchasing decisions are beyond my control.

Anyone see the Date Line "To catch a Predator" where the sherriffs came out of the bushes in FULL GHILLIE to tackle a pedo??
