I have a confirmed hit on a 24x24 metal plate at 1284 yards with my DPMS SASS. Now I usualy shoot no farther than 800 yards with it but gave the longer target a try and first round fell left and short so I adjusted and watched as the bullet impacted. Truth is I am surprised at what those AR platform guns can do these days.

Sweet man! I'm trying mine this Friday. Care to share your load recipe for 1000 yards? Right now I'm shooting 175 SMK's with 43.8 grains of Varget and CCI primer in a Winchester case. I dont have access to a chrono so the velocity is unknown but it's about 2.25 MOA from 100 to 200 yards. According to Bulletflight it's going around 2550 FPS so it "should" be fine for 1000 yards. We shall see...
You should be fine. AR10 with a 20" Bartlein barrel installed by GAP with a Thruster brake shooting CORBON 175 gr. factory ammo. Chrono'd @ 2536 fps and was able to engage LaRue type target successfully @ 1,000 yd.'s with 12+ mil.s of elevation.
I was hitting dirt around the 12" steel targets this Saturday. About 45.6 MOA or 13.3 Mils to 1000 with my handloads. I stopped trying after about 5 shots since the wind was gusting between 5-15 mph. I had no problem hitting 4" steel targets at 500 meters though, I had a pretty good hit percentage cosidering the wind - about 4.7 Mils to 500 meters.
