Got my GAP 22" AR260 last week so I loaded up some 139 scenars with 42.0 H4350 and headed to the farm yesterday. It drives tacks, but speed wise it was only averaging 2630. The cases looked great, no pressure signs at all, that I could see. What kind of speed are you guys seeing out of your AR260's? I thought It would run over 2700, like a few others I talked too. Suggestions?

    LR-260 with 24" barrel.

    42.5gr H4350
    Win 243 brass necked up
    CCI 200 primers
140 Amax seated to 2.800" (max mag length)

    2825fps avg.

Your speeds sound a touch slow, but not out of bed with a 22" gas rifle. I can push my load a little harder if I wanted but the cases are lasting nicely, the brass isn't getting whooped on by the rifle's functions and it shoots very well.

You m ight try 4831SC starting at 46gr, my frist 1lb the sweet spot was at 46.5. My new barrel and new 8lb batch of 4831SC sweet spot is at 47.3 no signs of over presure.

I think it's your barrel length and your barrel is still new. I don't know why but even with lapped in barrels I've found them to speed up after 100 or so rounds.

The 260 really excels when the barrel lengths increase, a 22" is the absolute minimum that I'd consider for a 260 build, 24" makes much more sense for it's overbore and expansion ratios.

The case has similar behavior to a 30-06 and the difference between a 22" and 24" 30-06 is pretty good. The difference between a 22" and a 26-28" is HUGE. I've had all of the above. My 260 was bought with a 24" tube for a reason, I've tried them in other rifles that I loaded for at 20 and 22". My 30-06 runs a 26" tube on it now. When I rebarrel in another 1k or so rounds I'll put a 28" tube on there since it's just a target rifle.

    ETA:

Also keep in mind that the 139 Scenars have a long bearing surface, this translates to more frictional drag in the bore. You said you weren't getting pressure signs yet so keep going on the powder and see what you get. The 140 Amax is a middle length bearing surface, the 140 Bergers are short. The 140 Berger (when loaded to the lands) shoots about 100fps faster than I've ever managed to push the Amax. It is a combination of many factors but that bearing surface length is certainly one of them.

I think that even when lapped, barrels nead to 'season'. I suspect that some residual carbon and copper fill in the granular structure and complete the bore finishing process.
