I am toying with the idea of machining a stock kit to take a standard A2 stock tube. How do you all think this would work and are there any currently in production that Im missing? And can any one think of any cons of doing this?

Thanks for the brain picking in advance!

Re: AR-30 custom stock

I suppose it's a reasonable way to make the stock adjustable. In general I'm surprised some manufacturers such as Choate haven't come out with some AR-30 accessories because the main stock to buttstock attachment is so simple.

I have looked for some myself, toying with the idea of making the rifle more compact (where's the rolling and laughing smilie?) by means of a collapsible stock. Can't find any. I'd think there is a market for adjustables for the sake of fitting: mine fits like it was custom made - the pull is perfect - but one needs long arms. People with shorter arms I'm sure find the rifle a bit unwieldy.

Your project sounds like a good idea.

Re: AR-30 custom stock

PLEASE follow through with this project!! This has been discussed off and on here with nobody taking the lead. Armalite is working on something, but they haven't put anything out yet. I would like to mount a Magpul PRS with an adapter so carry on chap, you are doing the Lord's work

Re: AR-30 custom stock

The work has started and funny, The stock I bought for the project is the magpul. But my main intention is to adapt it for a standard A2 stock tube so one could choose his stock. I will get pics up as soon as we get the first one cut and fitted. And we have already started the paten process. So we will keep you all updated!

Re: AR-30 custom stock

I already had this done to mine, round aluminum bar stock, turned to the same size as a A-2 tube, the screw hole drilled on the end, and the front where it attaches to the rear of the AR-30 cut the same as the original stock attachment.

The tube will be even with the rear of the AR-30 stock, but the A-2 stock or Magpul will have a drop down below the tube, where the AR-15 has the dropped area behind the trigger where the takedown pin spring is housed.

Where the bottom front of the A-2 stock dropped down, sharp and square (and useless on the AR-30), we arc cut it to be round and smooth behind your hand grip wrist area. This cut must be made to clear the back of your wrist.
This required modifying the A-2 stock itself and it was refinished to cover the arc cut.

Mine was done by Miracle Machine works in Selma Alabama, by Chris Self over a year ago. It was definitely not rocket science.

The people who went up the hill on "Ray's Fun Shoot In VA" http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1527321#Post1527321, another post in the competition section, saw the stock in action.

Sorry Guys, yours won't be the first one.

I'm not real bright when it comes to posting pictures, so if you will send me a PM with your e-mail, I will e-mail you a picture of the stock installed, it is a pain in the ass to take apart with the cheek piece we built for it.
