I have not seen any threads on this topic. With winter arriving in the PNW, I am tired of digging through snow to pick up my brass. Are these just a gimmick or are they worth it? Is there one brand better than the other? I will be shooting 300 BO from a 10.5 inch pistol and 223 from a standard 16 in SW MP.

Tactical Brass Recovery.

Expensive but it works without any hassles.

Thanks, that's pretty nice. I'm in PNW and was thinking the same thing! That snow was kinda unexpected, huh?

Anyway, I had my eyes on the one the German military uses, but don't know anything about it other than HK probably makes it for the G28 rifles. It looks like a solid piece too, like it won't jam up or beat the shit out of the brass. I just got 1000 new Lapua cases and I'd like to keep 'em in good shape and not loose 'em.

I live in New England and snow is why I bought mine.

Being a reloader its often a toss up....look first for round impact or where the brass landed.

It’s probably the cheapest one out there but my buddy has a Caldwell one that just has a wire velcro that wraps around, they make a picatinny attach as well. It may not take a beating on barriers but it’s been perfectly fine for him shooting off the bench and in prone in the hills. Plus it unzips on the bottom so you can check each piece of brass for pressure signs as it gently plops down immediately below the rifle.

When I researched mine one of the repeating concerns on some of these was that catchers made with a nylon type bag would melt from the hot brass.

Research that particular issue with whatever bag you buy.

Yep, the Caldwell one does that. Not on every case, but on a few, the rim of the case neck will be melted to the nylon. Pretty lame considering its only function is to catch hot brass.

John McQuay did a great review of the Caldwell, 3Bucc and TBR brass catchers on 8541 Tactical.

thanks that was a great review. I dont do any run and gunning, at least in the winter, so probably going to go with the caldwell picatinny rail mount version. I dont really want to pay that price but it is less than the TBR system (seriously?!?!). Should hold up fine for my needs.

I went back and forth for a long time on the tactical brass recovery one. after buying it though i have no regrets. never had any issues with it so far in a couple matches. being able to swing it out of the way to show clear after a stage is great and if there were to be a jam its easy to just push out of the way on the clock. During matches it is super nice to be able to just walk off the line and start thinking about the next stage/loading mags or whatever while everyone else is scrambling to pick up brass. that was worth a lot more than i thought it would be. im cheap as all get out but this catcher was definitely worth it. Also i have been running this on a few rifles, grendel, blackout, 308 and 6.5 creed, the adm qd makes it happen super quick and easy.

Another TBR user here, great product. Was expensive at first but no regrets whatsoever after using it. I've ran several other brass catchers over the years and they would occasionally cause case bounce backs into the bolt resulting in a malfunction, no such issues with the TBR unit with the rigid ABS plastic entry chute. Thousands of rounds through it and the plastic portion, bag, and zipper are holding up great.

I have an older model without the folding hinge, so for cease fires I take it off. Easy enough with the ADM throw lever, but might need to upgrade to the folding hinged model one of these days...
