AR10 6mm

Anyone turn a .308 AR into a 6mm xc or slr?

I just love how my 6mm performs, and I was thinking of switching out the barrel for a better performing barrel in a 6mm platform.
my question is: complete waste of money? Or stick with remington 700 style bolt gun?

I've run one in 6mm Creedmoor. its by far my favorite rifle!

I also run a 6mm creedmoor in a large frame AR. I have a JP barrel and it shoots great. I went with the JP mainly because it was a "factory" barrel and I didn't have to wait for a custom setup.

its been very accurate, but you are going to be limited on bullets running the 6mm. the 105 bergers wont load properly. the will chamber fine, but it "bumps" the meplat and get a little flat spot. basically the feed ramps are all set up for a 308 class bullet at the real pointy ones hit the end of the extension as they feed.

I am running the hornady 105g hpbt with no issues. the 107g sierras run great as well. just got some 105g RDFs and they load with out issue too. haven't done much testing, so can't comment beyond that.

I had a 6mm Creed built on Mega receivers, and I sold it to build another 6 Creed on a bolt action.

While the AR10 was fun to shoot, it had nowhere near the same consistency as my bolt gun does. 105s are really as light as you want to go with the Creed, and it really actually starts to shine in the 110-115gr projectile range. So that limits you pretty significantly with what you're able to do from the gasser.

That being said, if you have a hankering for another gasser, I'd HIGHLY suggest looking at a 6mmAR Turbo on an AR15 frame... now that is a fun 6mm to shoot.

I have a Fat Rat 6mm right now, and it shoots great. I shoot both tactical and precision matches.
I am leaning towards a new barrel on my bolt gun.
