Rifle Scopes AR15 optic needed

new to the AR scene. Need an optic for it. I already have a red dot to try. What the gun will be used for is 50-400 yard target and varmint hunting. Coyotes, prarie dogs, etc. budget is $500 and down. I dont be any means needs a scope that cost as much as my rifle. This is not something my life is going to depend on. Just a fun shooter that does not need to break the bank.

I have a leupold vx-r and really like it. I think around your price range. Be sure to keep an eye on the classifieds here, lots of good deals to be had

i kind of feel like i would like something that is not bullet weight specific so i can transfer it inbetween guns if i so choose. i think i would also like adjustable turrets on it, but dont know the practicallity for ar platform.

That's the exact scope I have on a 300 blackout. On low power works good for stuff running around close (pigs) and 7x is good for as far as the round will go. I was surprised how bright it is. I really like it
