I was just wondering what twist rate most guys are using now. I have an M4 style AR that is 1:8 twist and a 24" Bull Barrelled AR that is a 1:9 twist. What do you have on your AR?

I prefer 1:7 for 5.56 & 1:10 for my 7.62 piston gun.

Re: AR15: What is your twist rate?

3Gun 1:8, sold the others off but have a couple builds in progress.

Re: AR15: What is your twist rate?

1-7 for heavier bullets 60 + most 55's fly decent

1-8 for around 55gr accuate

1-9 for those tiny varmit bullets

Re: AR15: What is your twist rate?

3-Gun rifles:
1x9 16"
1x8 18" (JP) & (suppressed)

DMR type rifle
1x9 20"

CQB:
1x7 16" (suppressed)

All others 1:9 16"er's

Re: AR15: What is your twist rate?

2 AR's w/ 1-7
1 AR w/ 1-9
1 AR w/ 1-8

So I could shoot 40gr-80gr bullets.
1-9 twist AR good with the 40gr.- 62gr. Bullets, Shoots real well with Black Hills 52gr. Match.

1-7 Twist shoots the 62gr. - 80gr. bullets (80gr. single fed)
Shoots real well with 69gr.SMK and 77gr. SMK.

My first AR had a Wilson 20" 1-8 Twist bbl and shot .5" groups @ 100yrds consistant with Remington 62gr. HP Match bullets and 24.3gr. Benchmark, Winchester Brass, Federal 205M Primer. I was surprised this barrel shot that well! That Barrel only costed me $199.00 and I got it in 3 Days also.

My 6.5 Grendel is 1-7.5 Twist and shoots well with the 120gr. and 123gr. Bullets.

Re: AR15: What is your twist rate?

1:11.25 16" -- 6.8x43
1:18 16" -- .458 Socom
1:9 16" -- 5.56x45

Re: AR15: What is your twist rate?

For 5.56x45/223, I have most in 1:7, one in 1:7.7 and one in 1:8 (I also have a minty old Colt that doesn't get shot much that is a 1:12).

For 6.5G, I have 1:8

For 7.62x51/308, I have most in 1:10 and a few in 1:11.25

For 9x19/9mm Para, all are 1:10.

I think that may be a typo...are you sure you have a 308Win/7.62x51 AR-10 type rifle that has a 1:8 twist barrel?!?! If so, what kind of ammo are you running...240gr?? Also, what make/model rifle/barrel is it?

Re: AR15: What is your twist rate?

1/7 on 4 5.56 all chambered and 1/9 on 2 one is wylde chambered no 1/8's

Re: AR15: What is your twist rate?

1/7 KAC, 1/8 Les Baer. The 8 twist shoots the 77 SMK well to 600 yards.

Re: AR15: What is your twist rate?

I'm running 1:8 on my service rifles to shoot up to 80gr at 600

My usual M-4/Ar's ar running 1:9

I do have one GI barrel in 1:7 "Just For Fun"

Re: AR15: What is your twist rate?

Have a factory 16" 1:9 that I'll be switching to a WOA 1:7 soon. Still, the 1:9 has served me well for plinking and CQB drills.
