Arca or RRS Dovetail QD/Flushcups?

I have and enjoy arca rails from HRD and Sawtooth on my AI and AICS rifles. One thing I need is the ability to shoot slung up. Right now I use the pic rails with QD mount but need to wrap the sling around from the 3 o'clock side but that's not as comfortable as the more conventional 9 o'clock. Is there anyone out there making an ARCA or RRS Dovetail clamp that just has a QD/Flushcup on the bottom to meet this need?

It's sort of the opposite of what most photo people need so it's basically a shooting specific demand.

or if you do not want to use a qd flush mount,

I'm confused. Why don't you just use the qd mount on the 9 oclock side of the gun? Arca stuff is awesome, but at least for me, smaller and lower profile sling mounts are always better.

Proper use of the loop sling wraps around the back of the hand to ensure the tension of the sling and the supporting force of the arm are located in the same position. 12 o clock position is best for this but 3 o clock can also work though it introduces a torqueing force to be counteracted. 9 o clock doesn't allow the sling to pass over the hand so the tensioning force and supporting force are a few inches apart and require correction from the muscles of the support hand/arm. The objective is strong support with minimal muscle engagement because bones are consistent but muscles are not. 12 o clock is best for this.

Don't get me wrong -- this is for classic sling supported prone shooting from a loop sling only (No bipod allowed). For field positions/PRS type shooting with a sling I'm slung across the shoulders and hooked in at 9 o clock every time.

Keyst0ne,

Your original post said "Right now I use the pic rails with QD mount but need to wrap the sling around from the 3 o'clock side but that's not as comfortable as the more conventional 9 o'clock."

That statement led me to believe that you were looking for a 9 o'clock solution, hence my confusion. After that, you did say "Is there anyone out there making an ARCA or RRS Dovetail clamp that just has a QD/Flushcup on the bottom to meet this need?"

At the time I didn't understand what you meant by bottom, and assumed it was a typo. Now I see that the 9 o'clock was probably the typo. All good, unless I'm still confused:)

BTW, though I prefer to sling up from the 6 o'clock position too, I do not find that the 9 o'clock position "...doesn't allow the sling to pass over the hand so the tensioning force and supporting force are a few inches apart and require correction from the muscles of the support hand/arm."

On a practical level, 3,6 and 9 all work well for me. For the most precision possible, maybe 6 has a slight edge, but that also depends on the type of sling. I tend to use faster to loop up versions and some of them may give up a tiny edge in precision.

Are you using a standard 1907, or something else?

right on, you got me, I did mean I'm looking for a 6 o'clock position. Sorry for the treatise on sling use!

Depending on the rifle I use a 1907, a web sling, or on this one with the Arca rail the rifles only bungie sling. Arca bonus, I can easily adjust tension and elevation by sliding my new mount. Lever lock would be even better.

I really like super low pro sling attachments, but I hadn't thought about using the arca as a tensioning adjustment. Definitely opens up some possibilities. Please let us know how it works out and what you find when you use it.

Sorry to resurrect this from the dead, but is anyone aware of alternative RRS/QD widgets that have the sling sticking out the side of the rail, instead of directly out?

For example, if I have an RRS rail on the bottom of a stock, and want both sling QD fittings on the non-bolt side of the rifle to avoid the rifle twisting as I carry it, but there isn’t enough meat on the stock forend to put a QD socket on the side, the B2-FABN-Micro won’t quite work.
