Are pistol braces next.

The fuck!?!

I’m from Michigan, too. You need to consult an attorney. Yes our SBR’s need to be registered as pistols, but as soon as you slap that real-deal stock on the buffer tube and utilize that $200 dollar stamp you paid for, you have to transport that little guy like a rifle again. It has a stock on it now... that’s the key.

AR pistols are for traveling loaded, plain and simple, without the need to deal with the nuances of your SBR stamp. It’s good to have both and I’ll be pissed as hell if they take it away. I want loaded mags in my vehicle.

This is a legal update from 2014. Any SBR in Michigan that is under 26” of length is to be registered as a pistol and at that point is subject to all laws in regards to Pistols.

I would never take it out of state as this is Michigan only law.

If you have something to prove that wrong I’m all ears. I spoke with current Leo’s I work with as well as msp and all confirmed as long as it’s a pistol your ccw still applies.

Down side is you can’t add upper that makes the oal over 26” in Length. That makes it an sbr in which case your stamp is g2g but you can’t carry loaded in Michigan

Talk to whoever your local Leo’s are and your prosecutor. They’re the ones essentially making the decision to charge you. See what they say and go from there. I’m in the upper peninsula. Flint, Detroit, Lansing etc May have ordnance’s and what not that may restrict carrying anyways

Personally I’ll probably carry with the mag out anyways. Smaller case, easier to conceal without a 30 round mag hanging out the bottom. But it’s nice to have the option

That’s pretty great, I’m not going to challenge that one though! I did save the online excerpt from the MSP official, though. Never know when you need to pull a trump card and lob a name out there...
