Are stripper clips out of style?

Re: Are stripper clips out of style?

Well, the standard stripper clip guides are fairly specific to the mags they will fit, mostly GI style mags, they don't fit PMags or similar style polymer mags.

I have a box of about 5-600 stripper clips and 20-30 stripper clip guides, don't think they will ever get used......I guess you could say they are out of style (?)

I store all my ammo on stripper clips, its just easier to keep track of it and i load Mag's with them, both 5.56 and 7.62.

Re: Are stripper clips out of style?

You know what? I never even bothered to check if my stripper clips would work with my pmags... bad prep on my part.

Searcher, I dont think they're truly on their way out cuz of magazine technology just yet. Even with my Pmags and HK mags for my m4, I'd still unload em and let the springs "stretch their legs" for a little bit every couple months while deployed.

I also gotta agree with Army Dog - its just nice to store rounds stripper clipped. Whether its to cut down on prep time for the range or for a zombie invasion, I like to have my 5.56 stripper clipped just cuz it saves a a bit of time and hassle when I actually want to use my rounds.

Re: Are stripper clips out of style?

I use them to store ammo that I plan on shooting when all my mags are full.

They make loading all my PMAGs easy as pie with the striplula.

Works awesome.

Re: Are stripper clips out of style?

No longer own any C/F rifles with DMs, but when I did, they were my most basic ammo handling implements. If I ever do get something with a DM that's compatible, I'll use 'em again. I think they are an excellent system for recharging DMs off the rfile, using bridge clip magazine charging adapters. I am itching for a setup that allows me to use 'em with .260, .30-'06, and .280. Somewhere, I think I may still have a set of Weaver Swing-Over rings/bases that could allow reloading a scoped rifle with strippers.

I keep my ammo plastic cartage holders inside those cheep 20-30 dollar fire proof safes you can buy at Wal-Mart. It’s worth the extra few dollars if we had a fire, because otherwise the fire department wouldn’t try to put it out.

So I guess they just let gun and sporting goods stores burn?

Not true... I have put out a few house fires that had ammo in them.....

Exactly. Even better is to load the strippers into a StripLULA loader which works for GI mags or PMAG's and saves your thumb.

That quote makes my day. Well worth the price of admission. Thanks.

Paul is back to work. It was a large amount stored in a heavy-duty locker. So yes, we will fight your fires.

It's not a point about "out of style", but I would rather just have my stack of mags loaded and ready to rock rather than a stack of empties and a stack of clipped ammo.

Soon, no one will use stripper clips for ARs because all the dern mags will be so cheap that everyone will just have 50-200 loaded mags instead.

You'll see AR mags at <$5 someday. Reminds me of a deal I scored last year, bought a whole bunch of aluminum HK mags to run in through a CETME, for like $0.75 a piece or something ridiculous like that.

Re: Are stripper clips out of style?

My understanding is that many fireproof safes are made fireproof by filling the cavity between the inner walls and outer shell with sheets of Gypsum Drywall. If fire protection is the only goal, a room or closet could be lined with multiple layers of drywall, and one could dispense with the safe and the issues involved in moving them in and around. If you move, leave it in place and build a new one at the new destination.

I don't see much point in keeping magazines filled, where strippers and bridge clips make filling them so quick and simple whenever the need arises. I figure if the end of the world is coming too fast for me to load my mags, I'm screwed in any case. I am just so up to here with the whole 'TEOTY-WACKY' mindset. Pretty much, if the world is going that far sideways, I'm not really all that stoked up to join in on the partyfications.

It just happens I bought another half dozen Garand Enbloc clips yesterday. I figure I could keep them loaded til Doomsday and the Garand would be the first martial implement I'd grab in a lesser pinch anyway.
