I currently have a DPMS LR-308 16" with a troy rail and magpul stock. Nothing super special but I get about 1 MOA out of it everytime. I am looking at picking up one of these AR-10As. They now accept 3rd party mags and Armalite seems to be "gettting with the program". I seriously considered buying one of these when I bought my DPMS but the magazine issue is what turned me off. Now that this is no longer an issue, is there any reason I shouldnt switch to the Armalite? I like the look of the rifle better and I have read/heard/seen that Armalite has superior stock barrels.

Please give me any advice. Why or why not you would switch.

There are a lot of different AR-10A (DPMS/KAC Pattern mag) rifles, which will vary greatly in how they perform. Armalite has always guaranteed the performance of their rifles and stood behind them should anything prove to be wrong or otherwise not up to par, but in terms of specific accuracy/performance, Armalite "under-guarantees" all of their rifles in my experience. I think that the basic carbines are usually guaranteed for 2MOA...but they'll likely achieve far better with a competent shooter and quality ammo. The more precision-minded rifles are guaranteed 1 MOA but 99.9% of my experience with them says they are sub-MOA right out of the box. YMMV.

If all you are really after are "aesthetics"...then why not just make your existing rifle "look" the way the Armalite "looks" instead of spending more money selling off your DPMS and picking up the Armalite? The beauty of the AR market, both large and small frame, is that you can achieve more or less anything your heart desires in terms of the look/fell of the rifle. Once you know what you want in terms of those looks...it really just comes down to sourcing the appropriate components to achieve that look and then putting it together properly.

It's not going to be any better, in terms of DPMS / Armalite. Also Armalite just went back it is Original pattern that is what KAC used for the SR-25 in the late 80's. If you want better accuracy all you need is a barrel swap and some load development. For all intents and purposes the internal parts are about the same between all the variants. As is the bolt design and dimensions.

I have an Armalite AR 10AA4 with a SS barrel and a DPMS SASS which is more accurate the my Armalite. Although both are 1 moa shooters. With the DPMS SASS shooting 5 shot 100 yard groups usually about 0.75 moa. The suggestion to upgrade your DPMS is a good plan to follow imo.

my AR10 shot like crap with original barrel, replaced it with a noveske 21 inch and installed a geissele trigger in the damn thing and now it shoots lights out.
I would upgrade what you have befor buying something completely new and that'll save you some coins too.

I own a AR-10 B Super SASS and love it. HOWEVER instead of spending all this money to switch over to a new gun I would buy a new barrel, free float hand guard, PRS stock and a good trigger. Depending on which upper receiver you have F/A with dust cover or not and if you want one, gut out the old one and but a new one. On your free float Troy makes two different heights for the DPMS receivers just FYI . For all intensive purposes you will have a new rifle.

With me being an Armalite guy I would have to agree on buying a better barrel and trigger since you already have the rifle and mags. I would also get a good FFR, maybe a URX2/3...
