Pushup/situp/timed run, is a horrible excuse of a fitness test. </div></div>

Dang Chairforce General is the reason we got the crappy M16 in the first place, because his "men" couldn't handle a battle rifle

Re: ARMYs new fitness test???

Does anyone understand why the military chooses to make different standards for male and female AND different age groups? I think it is discrimination that my score standards are different now than when I was 19 or that I MUST do more than a female of the same age.

PS, it's time the Army caught on to what the Corps has been doing.

I've broken off more than my share of enlisted! My fun runs used to be 10 mile runs when I was a company CO.

We get older all this wear and tear tends to jack us up and slow us down. I'm hoping to age into the extended scale

The entire female thing is a completely different argument!

Re: ARMYs new fitness test???

You are the exception to a CO. Most COs that I have know sat on their asses and told the enlisted and NCOs to work harder and run faster.

Seriously?
I had a good 1SG who I used to run daily 6-7 milers with. He is working on being a 50 state marathon runner.

Currently I'm working through some injuries from my last deployment. Detached tendon in my right ankle and a torn rotator cup. Its hurt my runs and PT a bit.

EDIT: you forgot waist measurement as well

Ah don't get me started on the AF PT bullshit... maintainers are getting screwed more and more every day.

I miss the old PT shorts.

Re: ARMYs new fitness test???

I have had a few good officers who could PT, the rest were slugs. I had maybe 3 great 1SG's who could out PT me, but only until I learned how to beat them in every event, like running 4 miles or so. Three fine Co Commanders who could run and PT as well. When I had to stop running at the end of OEF VII due to multiple knee issues that kept me in physical therapy, I was pretty miffed, but only because after years of training, I was finally running distance without tiring, and smoking the dogshit out of my subordinates AND superiors as well as my barrel assed laterals. Nowadays I don't miss running, and the gym at the university is looking right nice for a daily workout for total body fitness.
Screw getting fat, not my game in or out of service!

Re: ARMYs new fitness test???

"A new annual "combat readiness" test includes running 400 meters — about a quarter of a mile — with a rifle, moving through an obstacle course in full combat gear, ..."
Does "full combat gear" mean MOPP4?

Is it an effective test of "combat readiness" if the soldier has advance warning and can tune up for it?

Re: ARMYs new fitness test???

In all the published pictures of this new PFT their definition of "full combat gear" means cammies and a helmet. No flak or anything else.

Re: ARMYs new fitness test???

The definaition of full combat gear would be:
MICH helmet
IOTV vest with 250 rounds, First Aid pack, and assorted tools
Boots
ACU or other full uniform
Assigned Weapon, or for equality, M16/M4

The test should be what we were doing during OEF VII, a total sprint for 450M to catch someone who is not wearing all the gear.
This was how we were able to catch so many LN's when they tried to run from us. We trained to catch them within the first 300M because we knew that after that they were gone!

Anything else is BS.
As to equality for females, well it is a proven fact that the study done by several colleges in 1993 stated that the middle 80% of male/females performed the same. The bottom 10% of females perfored less than all males. The top 10% of men outperformed the entire group, but the center plot found all men and women able to perform equally when they actually applied themselves. The Junior COllege I was at at the time was a major participant in this study. All around body strength was trained using 2 Gen Nautalous, and the 1/4 Mile track. Both short span, and long span muscle tests were performed. At teh end of it all, the old BS line of men perform better than women was BUSTED. Only 10% of men outperform women, everyone else is pretty much equal.

PT was the only way I really maintained my sanity. Spend multiple hours in the gym (when I had one), run my .7 mile route about 18 times in about 100+ degree heat, play soccer with the locals, Ugandans, Kenyans. Now I just feel crappy all day long. This weekend I'm going to start putting in some runs, injury or no injury!

Re: ARMYs new fitness test???

I had a CO in Germany that was a big time competitive runner, and expected everyone else to be, as well. A few good NCOs and EMs - who had never failed a PT test - were jacked up because they didn't fit his personal vision of what fitness should be. We were mech infantry fer chrissakes. But even worse, running was all he could do. He couldn't shoot, move, nor communicate fer shiite. Total retard in the field. I guess he focused on the only thing he wasn't totally jacked up on.

Glad to hear they're changing the standard to something more logical.

I just want ONE standard (which is self defined). If fitness is defined by do X, Y and/or Z, fine it is defined. BUT that standard should not change if I am 19 or 50, nor should it change if I am male or female. I don't care about studies of strength for men or women. I joined at 17, I am not 41 and my performance isn't much different (my run is slower from @9:15 to @10:30, thanks to knee reconstruction and me being lazy, but push-ups, sit-ups are the same). However, my score may be higher now due to the different standards for age, that is BS.
