Many years ago as a kid, I read an article by one of the old time gun writers. I seem to remember it was a short story that took place on the Mexican border. I do know that Askins was a border patrol officer. Anyways, it was a story about the writer meeting up with Clark Gable in a cantina, and didn't figure out who He was until the next day. Does this ring a bell with anyone? I would sure like to read that again.

Mac, I vaguely remember that story, and IIRC it was Bill Jordan.

He used to have a write-up in "G&A" called "Tales along the border" or something like that. Many years ago. I never got a chance to read any of his books, so that is where it must have been from. I believe he also wrote about concealing a .357mag AD in a jeep floorboard, with a simple nut and bolt. No-one ever asked about it.
